Description:

KCometen4 is an OpenGL KDE screensaver. Inside a box is a nifty light show that features lightning and exploding comets. It lets you configure various effects like comet behavior, camera movement, box face images, etc.

Sounds like it's not indexing kcometen4.desktop

Add this to the bottom of your ~/.profile

Quote:
export KDEDIRS=/usr/local:/usr

Then restart your session. Does it show up in system settings now?

 RPM Package for OpenSuSE 11.2

Hi
I like this screensaver and I modified it though it works with OpenSuSE 11.2 x86_64 and KDE 4.3.5. The RPM Package can be downloaded from www.linux-specialist.com/download/rpms/suse11.2/loopy-0.5.3-1.x86_64.rpm
If someone want's to have the Spec File to buld a package for another distro - just let me know an I will publish it as well.
Have a nice day.

Thanks. But to give credit where it's due, I just fixed a few bugs and ported to KDE4. The beautiful stuff comes from the author of KCometen3, but he seems to have disappeared.

 Too dumb for this

This was the solution posted for the screensaver not showing up in System Settings:

Sounds like it's not indexing kcometen4.desktop

Add this to the bottom of your ~/.profile

Quote:
export KDEDIRS=/usr/local:/usr

Unfortunately I am extremely newb to Kubuntu and I have no idea where that file(?) is. I appreciate your patience, I do enjoy the preview and would like to make Kcomet my default saver.

Thanks,

Photoperitus

Hi. Kcometen4 is already in kubuntu (in universe)

Just remove whatever kcometen4 stuff you installed under /usr/local. Then 'sudo apt-get install kcometen4'. That should do it.

 Lightning

Could you provide a second screensaver just with the lightning?
I'm sitting in front of my screensaver just looking for the lightnings ;)
Same setup, just without the comments and a setting for adjusting the frequency of the lightnings.

Great work :)

That seems like an interesting idea. I'll check if we can do this just by changing some options.

 Black background

by avoulk on: Aug 24 2010

Score 50%

I face a problem with this (otherwise awesome) screensaver, one that's already been mentioned actually.

While in test mode everything is ok, in real the actual background shown is just black. In a previous question you supposed a change in line 135 in kglcometen4.cpp would do the job but it did not.

After a bit of network research, it seems that the problem actually lies in line 83 when you grab the desktop screenshot (it mainly has to do with desktop effects and transparency i think, that QPixmap::grabWindow returns a black image). Sadly I am not sure of how fix this (and provide you with a proper patch) but i hope you can :)

Hope i helped you with this "bug report"! Many many thanks for the porting and all your effort!!

Actually using these steps, the problem is solved (i am not aware of any other problems caused by these though): https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=177495#c2

Interesting. That does start to confirm my suspicion that the problem lies outside the screensaver.

Thanks for pointing out the bug report. I'll keep an eye on it.
