Description:

Audex is an audio grabber tool for CD-ROM drives based on KDE 4.

Audex creates profiles for LAME, OGG Vorbis (oggenc), FLAC, MP4/M4A/AAC (faac) and RIFF WAVE. Please install your favorite encoder.
Of course for WAVE no external encoder is needed!
Beyond you can define custom profile, which means, that audex works together with commmand line encoders in general.

You can define extensive filename schemes. Please take a look at the documentation on the Audex webpage to see what's possible.

Some features are:
* Extracting with CDDA Paranoia. So you have quite perfect audio quality.
* Extracting and encoding run parallel.
* Extensive filename schemes.
* Filename editing with local and remote CDDB/FreeDB database.
* Metadata correction tools like capitalize etc.
* Multi-profile ripping (with one commandline-encoder per profile).
* Fetch covers from the internet and store them in the database.
* Create playlists, cover and template-based-info files in target directory.
* Creates ripping and encoding protocols.
* Transfer files with KDE KIO-Slaves.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: As LAME still can't handle unicode characters correct, Audex uses since version 0.73 eyeD3 for tagging mp3 files, if available. It is highly recommended to install eye3D on your system if you create mp3 files with Audex! **

Changelog:

Changelog 0.79 (Södertälje release)
* Only bugfix release.

 rip to multiple encodings

by braslau on: Jan 7 2010

Nice KDE application!

I systematically rip to both flac and mp3 encodings. May I suggest keeping the ripped .wav files in the tmp directory until the CD is ejected (or when audex exits). This way, changing profiles need not re-rip the CD and can encode (more rapidly) from the existing .wav files.

I am just thinking about what's the best way to implement a double encode feature.
Some people have asked for that.
But not before Audex 0.81.

 Drive selection

I have multiple optical drives on my machine - one rips faster, so I usually use it, but the other works better when a disk is scratched. It would be nice if the drive selection dropdown was accessible on the main screen rather than buried in the configuration dialog. :)

With audex 0.80 it will be (intuitively) possible to rip even simultaneously from several cd drives connected to your system.

Hooray! Hopefully I'll figure out how to make this thing alert me when new releases are published...

 Crashes when adding a profile

by torturedutopian on: Feb 28 2010

Well, I installed Audex 0.71 beta 5 on Kubuntu Karmic with KDE SC 4.4.0.

It crashes instantly after defining a new profile (the new profile isn't saved).

Maybe this is already fixed as this version is from the Karmic repositories :) Otherwise, I can provide a debug log !

Cheers & thanks for this very cool app ! (is it meant to replace kaudiocdcreator ?)

Same here on Kubuntu 10.04.
After clicking on "OK" in the "Create New Profile"-Dialogue Audex crashes.
I have Audex 0.72 beta 1 on KDE 4.4.2 installed.

 Re: local CDDB

Hi

Does Audex save to a local database/file after a CDDB lookup so it doesn't have to have an internet connection for track info on a subsequent ripping?
It appears that it does a lookup every time.

Thanks,

Great little app. I can't believe I just found it.

Any news on 0.80?

Thanks. :)

 Cue and log files

If this application could generate cue and log files, it would be perfect. As it stands, rubyripper is the best ripping tool for linux as of now, and it's a GTK application. I'd much rather use this for creating rips in my KDE environment.
