Description:

Audex is an audio grabber tool for CD-ROM drives based on KDE 4.

Audex creates profiles for LAME, OGG Vorbis (oggenc), FLAC, MP4/M4A/AAC (faac) and RIFF WAVE. Please install your favorite encoder.
Of course for WAVE no external encoder is needed!
Beyond you can define custom profile, which means, that audex works together with commmand line encoders in general.

You can define extensive filename schemes. Please take a look at the documentation on the Audex webpage to see what's possible.

Some features are:
* Extracting with CDDA Paranoia. So you have quite perfect audio quality.
* Extracting and encoding run parallel.
* Extensive filename schemes.
* Filename editing with local and remote CDDB/FreeDB database.
* Metadata correction tools like capitalize etc.
* Multi-profile ripping (with one commandline-encoder per profile).
* Fetch covers from the internet and store them in the database.
* Create playlists, cover and template-based-info files in target directory.
* Creates ripping and encoding protocols.
* Transfer files with KDE KIO-Slaves.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: As LAME still can't handle unicode characters correct, Audex uses since version 0.73 eyeD3 for tagging mp3 files, if available. It is highly recommended to install eye3D on your system if you create mp3 files with Audex! **

Changelog:

Changelog 0.79 (Södertälje release)
* Only bugfix release.

 cover not being fetched

 by google01103 on: Sep 1 2009

Score 50%

It appears that the cover fetching has stopped working, Both covers are available on Amazon so either they changed their api or they're locking the app out.

thanks,

Yes, I know. If you are familiar with compiling you can clone a copy from git:

git clone git://github.com/marcomania/Audex.git

This version fetches covers from Google image search.
Needs somewhat testing, but it is going to be Version 0.72 beta 1.
Unfortunately I don't have the time to push Audex development.

it compiled fine but the 2 test cd's showed correct track and cd names but no covers.

why Google images while Amarok is using Last.fm?

the auto search function for covers does not work yet.

there are some legal problems, which I have to clarify. maybe someone can help me with this point (Germany). this sux.

so I decided just to use google image search for covers until further notice.

just a note I compiled 72b1 and cover was retrieved correctly, also tested the "fetch cover" option and it too worked well.

comments
1) the right click on the cover image to initiate the cover menu is not obvious
2) on the "fetch cover" window adding a editable search string would be nice
3) much nicer than what Amarok 2.2beta has, maybe you all could share
4) is the "title correction tool" new? also nice

thansk,

 Two things

It would be nice if when the disc is not Various Artists it automaticly set the artist to the album artist. Also it would be awesome if you could add an option for the number of tracks on the CD.

Yes, as far as I remember, this should already been done. But I will check this.

Do you mean as a variable in the filename mask?

Thank you.

Sorry, I don't understand...
The cover should be stored in the ripping target directory after the ripping process is finished.

Sorry for late response

I didn't see that the option was in "profiles" and I was using a custom profile. Even though checked it wasn't working as it was set to "covers/$title" (which i guess I did?) but editing it fixed it and now it works

thanks,

PS - wonder if filenames and "extra files" shouldn't have a default setting or be in the more global settings

 Still getting "Drive error"

 by Musikolo on: Oct 17 2009

Score 50%

Hi,

I still get the "Driver error" message not matter what I do. I have collected some information in an attempt to help you out to find once for all a solution to this problem. I am really willing to help whatever else you might need as far as a solution is found.

* Strace log: http://pastebin.ca/1624855
* DVD drives: http://pastebin.ca/1624864
* Audex snapshots:
- http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/8352/audexdriveerror1.png
- http://img194.imageshack.us/img194/192/audexdriveerror2.png

I really hope a solution is found soon. It's a huge pity not to be able to use this wonderful program.

Best regards! :-)

I'm sorry for that. Maybe this is because you have 2 drives installed.

I'm going to check this, as soon as I get a second drive for my system.

Thank you.

Hi again,

Out of curiosity, I have removed my Toshiba drive (/dev/sr1) and, in spite of having a single drive left (LG DVD recorder), I still get the pretty same error.

What else could I do to find out the bug?

Best regards! :-)

I'm going to change a lot on "Audex' base", so the chance may be good, to get it work with the upcoming Audex 0.80.

Hi,

How do I set the ogg vorbis quality to a non-integer setting.
I would like to set it to -q 8.3 which is equivalent to a bitrate of 275 but I can't see how to set this.

Thanks,

gzu

hi,

there a two ways:

1. check out the most recent version of Audex from KDE SVN and compile audex:

svn co svn://anonsvn.kde.org/home/kde/trunk/playground/multimedia/audex

mkdir build
cmake ..
make
(sudo) make install

2. define a custom profile with your own oggenc commandline.

thank you for using audex.

regards, marco

Hi,

I've tried your suggestion 2 already.

I don't seem to be able to define a maximum bitrate greater than 100.

Thanks for looking,

gzu
