Description:

Audex is an audio grabber tool for CD-ROM drives based on KDE 4.

Audex creates profiles for LAME, OGG Vorbis (oggenc), FLAC, MP4/M4A/AAC (faac) and RIFF WAVE. Please install your favorite encoder.
Of course for WAVE no external encoder is needed!
Beyond you can define custom profile, which means, that audex works together with commmand line encoders in general.

You can define extensive filename schemes. Please take a look at the documentation on the Audex webpage to see what's possible.

Some features are:
* Extracting with CDDA Paranoia. So you have quite perfect audio quality.
* Extracting and encoding run parallel.
* Extensive filename schemes.
* Filename editing with local and remote CDDB/FreeDB database.
* Metadata correction tools like capitalize etc.
* Multi-profile ripping (with one commandline-encoder per profile).
* Fetch covers from the internet and store them in the database.
* Create playlists, cover and template-based-info files in target directory.
* Creates ripping and encoding protocols.
* Transfer files with KDE KIO-Slaves.

**IMPORTANT NOTE: As LAME still can't handle unicode characters correct, Audex uses since version 0.73 eyeD3 for tagging mp3 files, if available. It is highly recommended to install eye3D on your system if you create mp3 files with Audex! **

Changelog:

Changelog 0.79 (Södertälje release)
* Only bugfix release.

 bug in fetching cd covers

by lst on: Aug 3 2010

Score 50%

There is a small bug in fetching cd covers: it works the first time, but the dialog is disabled after that, i.e., if you insert a second CD, no covers are fetched, no covers are displayed and also the context dialog (right mouse click) is not available. I had a quick look at the source code. Evtl. "fetching_cover_in_progress" is not correctly reset to false if it is started via "googleAuto" in "cddaheraderwidget.cpp" ? A fix would be great. Thanks for the great application!

From what I have experienced, it only stops working when it can't find a CD cover.

 Same here

Covers are not always catched. Only a restart help.

Another cover matter:
If audex cannot find a cover, a click on search (google search) is not working.
This would be important!

Thank for reporting. I'm going to have a closer look at this problem for Audex 0.73 beta 2.

 does not recognize CD anymore

by janet on: Sep 2 2010

Score 50%

Suddenly Audex does not recognize the CDs in my drives anymore, it always says "No CD in drive". Alas I don't know since when. The drives in the settings are ok. I'm using 0.72 beta 1 with KDE 4.4.5/Debian Sid. Any idea what I could do, where I could search for hints?

Want Debian Sid with spices? Get sidux at sidux.com - it simply works :)

If the problem still exists with recent kde and 0.73 please make a bug report. Thank you so far.

 date bug

by Lanzi on: Oct 21 2010

Score 50%

I love audex, I use it every day... well, nearly every day ;-)
One really annoying thing:

If the cddb-Database doeas deliver the info, and no date is included, audex fills the field automatically with 2010, wich is for my huge collection in 99,9999999% wrong.
I would prefer an empty field!

Maybe a swith in the option:
"fill automnatically current date" yes/no would be a solution.

Thanks so far for the good work!

All I can say at this time: I think this is a "feature" of libkcddb. Audex uses libkcddb and can't recognize if "2010" is fetched from database or just set, because it has not been found.
But I'm going to have a closer look at this.

Yes, that would be nice. Its kindo of awkward to have only new CDs ;-)

Thanks for your dedication!

 faac support

To faac is broken. I could fix it by editing the line 201 in utils/encoderassistant.cpp. I deleted the option -s which doesn't exist anymore in faac.
