GOOGLYRICS DEVELOPMENT HAS HALTED. TRY THE GOOGLYRICS2 BETA at: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Googlyrics2?content=86837

Sick and tired of traditional, crappy lyrics search tools? Sick of having to go to google yourself to hunt down lyrics? GoogLyrics is for you! I've been annoyed by the low yield on some of my more obscure music with many of the Amarok lyric search scripts available. A long time ago, I'd seen a rather impressive windows program called EvilLyrics, they had an interesting idea, search for the lyrics then rip them off known websites, using this it managed to have a very high success rate at lyric extraction. I decided to implement this myself in an amarok script. After a quick day of scripting, here's the result: a true lyrics metasearch script. Now a month later, this script is constantly getting more advanced. It now supports many different popular lyrics sites and has an extremely high success rate on even my more obscure music.

If you're using Ubuntu or debian, this is as simple as download+install the package below. For any other distro, read on.

This script requires the WWW::Mechanize perl module to run,
to install it on any distro:
# cpan
cpan> install WWW::Mechanize
Done.

Text::Iconv is also required for this, however, this is already included in most perl packages. if not, follow the cpan instructions replacing WWW::Mechanize with Text::Iconv

Logo credits go to puffaliaz, who I'm yet to have a website from... when he makes one I'll post it.

Files have been moved to rapidshare.com direct links. Hope it works :)

 darklyrics.com

Thank you for your script, it find a lot more lyrics than others I have tried.
I was wondering if it is possible to include http://www.darklyrics.com/ into the script? I don't have any programming skills yet :P but I know that that particular site has a lot of metal lyrics of songs I listen too.
And I would love to have them in amarok next to the playlist instead of hunting them down myself everytime..
thanks!!

ok nvm about building it in.. I just found that it already is in there...
but it rarely uses that site..

is there a particular order in which the sites are scanned? because for a lot of songs it takes 30sec to find lyrics to it.. if possible I would like to move darklyrics a bit up the chain?
is that possible? how do I do it?

thanks!

Sorry, no dark lyrics support at all due to the way the lyrics are stored as whole albums per page. I really want to do a major rewrite but I don't have the time or don't feel like it.

hi,
i love your lyrics plugin. It is nice and fast but sometimes it displays the lyrics as the track and the artist but no lyrics. I get this problem with the lyrics for 'low' from 'Flo-Rida feat. T-pain' It says "Powered by Googlyrics (http://udmp.info/content/view/13/29/)" when I open in external browser it works and all but I can't see it in Amarok. It takes the lyrics from Justsomelyrics.com. could you help me? thanks a lot.

 proxy support?

I'm behind a proxy and googlyrics fails to connect to google, the proxy is configured correctly and I can search in google with konqueror.

the network where I am blocks all direct connections so there's no other way than through the proxy

 Strange characters

Thanks for the script, seems to work really fine. I have only one problem when the lyrics are downloaded from some sites like metrolyrics: if I try to modify the lyrics (sometimes there is some error...) they appear like this part:

Will I see it again?

So I can rest my head

So I can rest my head
© GREEN DAZE MUSIC;

while in the normal showing way they appear as normal letters...

This is due to metrolyrics trying to protect from scripts like googlyrics. I might put a parser on there next version.

 regex and character encoding

 by dustbln on: May 26 2008

Score 50%

First of all: Thanks for this great script!

I found two issues:
- The regex for justsomelyrics.com needs to be changed to get it working again:

regex => qr/<\/div>(.*?)<div/msi,

- Song and artist names use wrong (?) character encoding.
Special characters (e.g. German äöüß) are substituted by "?" (might be a unicode thing)
However: In this cases the Script finds songtexts without any problems and the songtext itself displays correctly. So I think there is a problem when song/artist are returned to amarok. Do you have any idea how to set/change encoding for these variables?

Greetz,
dustbln
