GOOGLYRICS DEVELOPMENT HAS HALTED. TRY THE GOOGLYRICS2 BETA at: http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/Googlyrics2?content=86837

Sick and tired of traditional, crappy lyrics search tools? Sick of having to go to google yourself to hunt down lyrics? GoogLyrics is for you! I've been annoyed by the low yield on some of my more obscure music with many of the Amarok lyric search scripts available. A long time ago, I'd seen a rather impressive windows program called EvilLyrics, they had an interesting idea, search for the lyrics then rip them off known websites, using this it managed to have a very high success rate at lyric extraction. I decided to implement this myself in an amarok script. After a quick day of scripting, here's the result: a true lyrics metasearch script. Now a month later, this script is constantly getting more advanced. It now supports many different popular lyrics sites and has an extremely high success rate on even my more obscure music.

If you're using Ubuntu or debian, this is as simple as download+install the package below. For any other distro, read on.

This script requires the WWW::Mechanize perl module to run,
to install it on any distro:
# cpan
cpan> install WWW::Mechanize
Done.

Text::Iconv is also required for this, however, this is already included in most perl packages. if not, follow the cpan instructions replacing WWW::Mechanize with Text::Iconv

Logo credits go to puffaliaz, who I'm yet to have a website from... when he makes one I'll post it.

Files have been moved to rapidshare.com direct links. Hope it works :)

Hi,
Sorry but lyrc.com.ar is not indexed by Google thoroughly, so there is no need to be added in GoogLyrics (and besides it has very low ranking in the results returned by Google).

As for the Serbian lyrics site kovach.co.yu it is added now in the SVN version, so it will be present in the next GoogLyrics version that will be released.
Meanwhile if you want to use Kovach, just go to .kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/googlyrics folder in you ${HOME} and issue the command svn up. Of course for this to work, you need to have the subversion package installed on your system.

 Dark Lyrics

Could you add DarkLyrics.com, too?

And a question: how could I set preferred lyrics sites? I'd like the script to first try Lyriki, LyricWiki, Dark Lyrics (if it were available), Lyrics.ee and JustSomeLyrics - and when nothing is found from those, try the rest. I tried messing around with the code in the script, but didn't get it working the way I wanted... (probably did something wrong...)

...more or less.

Site prioritization isn't available right now, sorry, I hope to have it implemented soon! As for Dark Lyrics, the way the site is organized prevents it from being added (ex: all lyrics for an entire album on one page), I intend on fixing this problem with a coming rewrite. When I've got a bunch of time (think I'll start it now) :) If there are songs that aren't being found, tell me and I'll see what I can do about other sites with their lyrics.

 LyricWiki

Does GoogLyrics support LyricWiki? It doesn't seem to find any lyrics by "Strom & Wasser", although they are posted there. Maybe there's a problem with the "&"-character in the band's name?

Yes it supports LyricWiki, but will you please tell us exactly the name of the song and the band as it is in the mp3 tag of the song you do not get the lyrics?
And can you tell me what version of GoogLyrics you use ?

I'm using version 0.1.3. I can't get any of the lyrics on this page: http://lyricwiki.org/Strom_%26_Wasser
The songs are tagged exactly as they appear on this page.
For example:

Artist tag: "Strom & Wasser"
Song tag: "Surrealist"

There's no result in GoogLyrics and neither is there with any other song by this band.

Agh, I'm sorry. I just noticed that most lyrics have only recently been added to the wiki, so they're probably not yet indexed in Google. I suppose they will appear in GoogLyrics sooner or later.

 support lrcshow-ii

Hi,
your script to search lyrics is better than the default solution of amarok :-) but i have 2 request:
-include a function to "autosave" the texts in the local directory
-support lrcshow-ii script (add the searched lyric to the lrcshow's window)

regards
Thank you

I've been considering this feature myself, but I stopped when I saw that all the lyrics were store by amarok in the database anyways and just queried that directly. I think I'll still implement this though, it's a good idea, plan on it in 0.2, as for the lrcshow-ii thing, I guess I'll figure out what that is, then see what I can do :)

My Amarok is not autosaving the lyrics...
It does with other lyric scripts, but not with GoogLyrics..

I would be very grateful if you added that feature.

oh, and could you add
letras.terra.com.br
letras.terra.com.ar
and lyricstime.com ?

it's a real shame that lyrc.com.ar is not indexed by google

My apologies, I'm behind on releasing, I'll look into adding these sites, should be done and next version will have autosaving lyrics.

I can't find the lyrics directory in my home folder. I'm using the 0.2 version. Do you know what I'm doing wrong ?
