0.3-alpha-2:
Changelog: http://sourceforge.net/projects/speech2text/files/simon/0.3-alpha-2/Changelog/view

Warning: You might need experimental packages on OpenSUSE from your distribution as this release requires KDE 4.4! (Included by default in Ubuntu 10.04)

0.3-alpha-1:
Changelog: http://sourceforge.net/projects/speech2text/files/simon/0.3-alpha-1/Changelog/view

Warning: You might need experimental packages from your distribution as this release requires KDE 4.4!

0.2:
Fixed the remaining known issues and added the manual.

0.2 rc1:

We've done a _lot_ of testing. Basically we tested every feature as well as we could and came up with a lot of bugs.
Well those are all fixed now :)

There are two issues left which are sadly quite bad: One crashes simon and one causes the recognition to stop without any error or warning what so ever. Both only get triggered when re-initializing the recognition and are related to Juliuslib. I hope to get that fixed soon.

But all in all, simon should be quite stable and ready for some productive use!

0.2-beta-3:

Introducing three new command plug-ins:
* List
A list of other simon commands; The user selects one of the commands using numbers 1-9; If there are more than 8 commands in the list, the list only goes from 1-8 and 0 and 9 are can be used for scrolling (0: up; 9: down).

* Composite
Combines other simon commands in one "Macro". The user can even define delays between the invocation of two sub-commands.

* Input Numbers
A calculator-like front-end to input long numbers with ease.

Also, the desktop-grid can now be completely controlled by voice.

The recording widget now displays the current "loudness" of the input while recording. This should help to weed out not working / badly configured microphones.

Updated Julius to the current SVN versions with minimal modifications.

Bug-Fixing all around - especially related to sound and recognition.

0.2-beta-2:

Fixed various bugs related to the grammar which caused it to not get saved most of the time. It is now again possible to add multiple words at once without losing samples. All input files to the importing functions (dictionary, texts, etc.) are now checked if they exist before the importing begins. simon now compiles also on Ubuntu Hardy Heron (KDE 4.0) Removed KDE-Includes when building julius (a lot of warnings due to strict compiler flags) All libraries are now installed correctly.

0.2-beta-1:

Bugfixing all around.
Fixed a whole lot of libjulius / sent related issues regarding stopping / starting of the sound-stream.
Fixing the Windows Version.
Introducing CPack support for quick package building.

0.2-alpha-1:

Porting to KDE 4
Removed Juliusd in favor of simond:
* Network audio streaming
* Recognition and model compilation on server
* No processor intensive calculations on the client (opens the door to development of solutions for embedded devices, etc.)
Revised and greatly improved command plugin architecture
* Individual triggers per plugin
* Runtime module loading / unloading (even the configuration of the modules)
Introduction of ksimond - a frontend to the simond recognition server
And much, much more...

0.1-alpha-2.1:

A lot of compatibility fixes.

0.1-alpha-2:

Too many changes to count - here the most important ones:

Fixed about a gazillion bugs.
Streamlined the interface.
The command-system has been completely rewritten.
A few performance optimizations.
Introduced a structured build-system.
Switched to portaudio backend for more compatibility.
Did I mention fixing bugs? Lots of them...

0.1-alpha-1:
Initial release

Hi,
I am Carlos from the your simon blog, i got the problem of a directory existance (default{7815bd58-b70a-42ed-8526-6816eb041d62}.cd_semi_200/) you ask me to upload all my directory so i did it, all the files under .kde (c:/users/fernando/appdata/roaming/.kde) are on rapidshare(http://rapidshare.com/files/1142288943/.kde.rar).

As i try to solve my problem by my own, i uninstall and reinstall simon, and i got the same error, but with a different last file (now is the default{48f1849e-5d4d-4185-8c99-7f18ca1807e8}.cd_semi_200/)

Here is the entire error:
As the server compiled the model the following error occurred:

And here is the details of the error:

Hm, SPHINX seems to have trouble with spaces in paths. I thought I caught and fixed all of those but apparently, I missed some in the final tarball.

Could you try if installing Simon to C:\Simon instead of C:\Program Files\Simon fixes the problem?

Best regards,
Peter

it seems like that problem its gone, i chose HUB4 WSJ Sphinx model and checked the adapt base model and the error is not showing. The problem comes when i try to load any scenario or add any word, the next error shows:

The recognition reported the following error:
Failed to setup recognition:

And thats all, i had this problem before and we fixed importing the cmudict.hub4.06d.dict, but now i try that and the error keeps showing, what can i do?

Again, please try installing Simon to a space-free prefix.

I am sorry to keep you bothering, but i have try everything you have told me to use adapt model on Simon 0.4.0 on windows, but the problem of the source directory existance still going on, i have intalled Simon in "C:\Simon" like 20 times, but the same error keeps showing, do you have any other possible solution? I really like this program.

The message that the source directory does not exist is a symptom of a failing model compilation.

If you still get this, I need the full build log that is a .html file to be found in c:/users/fernando/appdata/roaming/.kde/tmp-fernando-pc/simond/default/compile/sphinx/default{<current id>}/ where "<current id>" refers to the model id (should be visible in the error message Simon shows you).

Please post it somewhere and provide the link here.

You can download the directory from here:

I tried to add 2 words using adapt base model with the HUB4 WSJ, and i got the same error.

Thank you.

Okay; So I've looked at your archive and everything in there is *fine*.
Both models completed as successfully as possible - but I saw that you've only recorded a total of 4 training samples.
For an improved adapted model, I'd say you need *at least* 50 times as much.

I also tried rebuilding the model from your input files and that worked as well. I then tried to adapt a model on Windows and that was fine too (I normally test on Linux).

So two questions:
1. If it gives you trouble: Do you need an adapted model? Why? Have you tried the Voxforge English model (with the matching scenarios) if HUB4 is not accurate enough?
2. If you absolutely need to do this, please run another round of training (at least 20 samples) and write down everything you do and everything that Simon does (every message, every error, whatever) - make sure you include any "additional information" (or "details") if Simon provides some.

Best regards,
Peter

You can download the directory from here:
http://www.4shared.com/rar/f_4-Ed-f/sphinx.html

I tried to add 2 words using adapt base model with the HUB4 WSJ, and i got the same error.

Thank you.

Sorry about the 3 repeated posts.

About your questions, the HUB4 model its great, but i am about to use Simon with handicap people, they need to train the model before they can use it, because some of them can not talk clearly.

I have uploaded a video to youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX5_1ArD6HU&feature=youtu.be) to show you the exact way i do the things with Simon, i start with the HUB4 model without adaption and everything its fine, the problem comes when i check the "adapt model", the same mistake its showing and another error appears:

As the server compiled the model the following error occurred:
Cannot copy model to destination

I have uploaded the whole .txt of the error on:
http://www.4shared.com/office/hnfC1-V7/seconderror.html

I am starting to think that maybe this is a privileges error, what do you think?

Interesting. In your error log, SPHINX complains about missing / corrupt audio samples. That might be the root cause of all this.

Specifically, these three samples are mentioned:
LINK_CLICK_S1_2013-02-06_21-02-56.0
LINK_CLICK_S1_2013-02-06_21-30-10.0
LINK_CLICK_S1_2013-02-06_21-35-01.0

Those are not all your samples, are they?
(The log also tells that your *whole* trainings corpus is about 46 seconds long - WAY too little for a sensible model, obviously)

Can you check out these samples (main window > Manage training data) and see if you find anything odd about them?

Did you by any chance manipulate some samples directly (file system) instead of through Simon? Are you using a remote Simond server?

Btw. if you are planning for a larg(er) scale deployment and are looking for professional consulting, my colleagues at Simon Listens (http://simon-listens.org) will surely be happy to receive your inquiry.

Best regards,
Peter

I think those are my samples...

I checked out the samples, run them and they seems to be ok. Also, I used Simon to record the samples and i am using a local Simond server.

I have load all the Simond directory(http://www.4shared.com/rar/F45MOrrO/simond.html?) with all the sample records i have make this far, i have only 2 commands: LINK CLICK and LINK DO.

You upload the folder containing Simonds temporary files.
This does not include training data which is to be found in c:/users/fernando/appdata/roaming/.kde/share/apps/simond/models/default/samples/

Could you please upload those, I'm curious now...

Best regards,
Peter

Oh, also, can you please run in a command line ("cmd" in the windows run dialog) the following command and paste the full output?

C:\Simon\bin\sphinx_fe.exe \
-c c:/users/fernando/appdata/roaming/.kde/tmp-fernando-pc/simond/default/compile/sphinx/default{3375fa4e-64e0-4c9e-bbe3-649e97b9704d}/etc/default{3375fa4e-64e0-4c9e-bbe3-649e97b9704d}_train.fileids \
-part 1 \
-npart 1 \
-di c:/users/fernando/appdata/roaming/.kde/share/apps/simond/models/default/samples/ \
-ei wav \
-do c:/users/fernando/appdata/roaming/.kde/tmp-fernando-pc/simond/default/compile/sphinx/default{3375fa4e-64e0-4c9e-bbe3-649e97b9704d}/feat \
-eo mfc \
-nist no \
-raw no \
-mswav yes \
-samprate 16000 \
-nfilt 40 \
-lowerf 133.3334 \
-upperf 6855.4976

Best regards,
Peter

Ps.: If the output is too long for the scrollback buffer, you can redirect it to a file ("command > outputfile").

I uploaded all the .kde directory to:
http://www.4shared.com/rar/1BpcMG1x/kde.html?

Also uploaded the output file to:
http://www.4shared.com/office/5TEksC3s/output.html?

What would happen if i put your .kde directory instead of mine? do you think it might work?

Thank you for your time.

Weird. I can take your configuration folder, download and extract it and build the model *just fine* with your configuration.

Most likely this is either a problem with the packaged version of SPHINX or the way it is packaged.

Checking your permissions would actually be a good idea at this point. If you're using a restricted user account, try to run Simon as an administrator.

What would also be great is, if you could try to manually compile the model that fails when building through Simon.

For example, let's pick the one I tested (appears to be your latest one):
Open the command line again and navigate to "%appdata%/.kde/tmp-FERNANDO-PC/simond/default/compile/sphinx/default{58d70da8-c481-4899-96a4-51ffb08a84}"
Then, execute the following (I don't have a Windows installation in front of me so maybe you'll have to fudge the file names / paths a little bit but it should be straightforward changes if there are any at all): "C:\Simon\bin\python.exe C:\Simon\bin\SphinxTrain"

After this finishes executing, open up the default{...}.html file in this folder. This is the log of the model compilation process.
It will still contain the log of the earlier invocation (through Simon) but will also show the new protocol at the end.

The steps are numbered and timestamped you should find the start of the new training session pretty easily.

There should be no errors *until* the last step (called "MODULE: DECODE Decoding using models previously trained"). There will be errors in that step even if everything went alright. Do you see that or do you get the same warnings as in the earlier invocation (mfc files empty or missing with a path that points to a .mfc file that is neither empty nor missing)?

I do not have SphinxTrain file under C:\Simon\bin\SphinxTrain, i have sphinxtrain.exe, i have a SphinxTrain under C:\Simon\lib but it has another files, so wich one do you want me to execute with C:\Simon\bin\phyton.exe "file"?

I ran Simon as administrator, and everything stills the same.

Can i have your .kde directory? i want to put it instead of my .kde, do you think it might works?

Ah, I forgot it's named "sphinxtrain.exe" - that's the one I mean.

And, no I can not give you my .kde directory as it *really* wouldn't help for many, many reasons which include "I'm using Linux", "all the paths would be wrong" and "I don't have a Simon setup that would help you in the first place".

I seriously recommend using the provided installer.

If you don't want that, uninstall cygwin (important), set up emerge according to the instructions here techbase.kde.org/Getting_Started/Build/Windows/emerge and run "emerge simon".

Be warned, though, there will likely be a couple of tough hurdles to solve before you can successfully compile Simon on Windows.

I couldn't get Simon to run on Mint Cinnamon, so installed Mint KDE. Sorted ;-)
