Description:

A dark (black & white) theme for gnome desktop.
Thanks to Gnome Fanatic for the name!

I just recieved mail being told this
theme is the default in PCLOS Gnome 2008 !

More info and download here: http://linuxgator.org/

suggestions very welcome!

PLS! tell me what you think!

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!

To install:
1.Download the file to your desktop
2.Right click the file and select extract here, then another archive pops up,do
the same for that.
3.open a terminal and run these commands:

first
sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS /usr/share/themes

second (this one fixes firefox,don't need this for ff3, only 2 This fix is made by user twrock, so if he wants me to delete it i will)
cp /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/userChrome.css $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome

4.Open the theme manager, you can now
see the SlicknesS theme as a theme,
when you click on it , it suggests
taners amazing wallpaper he made for this theme!!
click apply to apply the wallpaper!

the icon theme it suggests is this one:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

any problems with the install let me know!!!!

One REALLY HUGE thank you to artist Taner
for his fantastic wallpaper!

Changelog:

2.2.2 probably the last update, this should
fix the message of an engine "" not installed
I can't try it myself if it works (since I don't have
gnome installed) so if anyone would be kind
to let me know if it works, it would be kind :)
This will probably be my last fix as I'm not on
gnome anymore.

2.2.1 Fixed my previous F**kup. (at least I hope so)
(it's been tested on ubunut 7.10). If anyone still
has any kind of problem please be so kind and let me
know!

To read full changelog read changelog.txt in
the SlicknesS folder.

 newbie installer

So I love the way your entire theme works, from the icons, to the menu bars, even down to the widget (assuming that is what it is) on the right with all of your system information. My only problem is that I am new to linux (have been using it for about 3 weeks) and can't get it to fully work.

First off, I got the theme installed where it shows up for the menu and changes the display of windows, but when you drop down the menus on the toolbars (Such as the Applications menu) it has a grey background. I have no idea how to go about changing this to how you have it.

Second, the icons package you suggested I loved, but I think I installed them incorrectly. I copied them into the icons folder, but They don't seem to be entirely setup.

Finally, I have no idea how/where your widget came from. I assume it is something in the synaptics install such as gtk pixbuf, but I was wondering if you could help get me started with that as well.

my email is joncalhoun@gmail.com, but I'll check back here as well. I have a feeling I'm going to be working on fixing this for a few hours.

Thanks! Glad you like my theme!

The grey menues is a bug caused on
some distros to for some reason load the
clearlooks engine on the menues (or so I've
heard)
I have not experienced that myself... I hope
to have that fixed in the next version,
the fix right now is to in the gtkrc file
in the default style delete the whole clearlooks
section. if you don't know how do this I can
try to guide you.

The systeminfo on the right is a program called conky:

http://conky.sourceforge.net/

as for the icons the package is double-archived,
so you have to first extract the package
then go inside the folder and extract that
package too.... then copy the extracted
folder to /usr/share/icons (this must be
done as root).

then you should find the icons :)

hope this helps!

I haven't tried the other stuff yet, but I do not know how to delete clearlooks, but I can google it here in a minute.

Anyway part of my problem is stemming from the icons. For some reason when i unzip them, and goto the folder all the images are fine, but when i copy them to the /usr/share/icons folder half of them screw up (i'm copying them via logging into root in the terminal then cp -r $HOME/Desktop/black-white_2-Style /usr/share/icons and that is the 2nd extraction of the folder) Any idea why this would be happening or how I can fix this?

One final question, how did you configure your conky? I can't seem to get it to stay anywhere except the top left or bottom left of my screen and its.. not nearly as nice looking i guess. God I need to learn linux fast.

glad you have the icons working!

get my conkyconfig here:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Conky+%5BTheRob%5D?content=74972

just extract the conkyrc file on your desktop and run this command:

cp $HOME/Desktop/conkyrc $HOME/.conkyrc

then type conky to launch....

yeah deleting the clearlooks theme isn't
gonna cut it... well I'll have that section
removed and send it to your mail...
just don't want to update here yet since
this can cause other problems...
I will try to have this issue sorted out
asap!

Thanks!

I'm getting the following error message when using your theme and opening a file from the terminal:

sudo gedit /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/gtk-2.0/gtkrc
/usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:92: error: unexpected identifier `reliefstyle', expected character `}'

It is just since the new update...I use this theme on my desktop but am having trouble getting it to work on my laptop. Also, the menus from the panel are not theming properly. Ditto with file browser icons. Please help, love this theme!

Is it just me or the theme is not working fine since last update... I am getting a flat unthemed gtk like view when I apply this theme (but the panel and metacity are themed just well).

 FIX for flatness

 by andydread on: Apr 10 2008

Score 50%

Thanks for this wonderful theme. Excellent work. I had to tweak the emerald glow around the windows into a shadow from a glow though.

Here is what i did to fix the flat gtk unthemed look in Ubuntu 7.10. I edited the /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/gtk-2.0/gtk2rc file. commented out the section that says clearlooks and added the section that says ubuntulooks. Now all seems to be working ok.

Quote:

engine "ubuntulooks"
{
menubarstyle = 2 # 0 = flat, 1 = sunken, 2 = flat gradient
menuitemstyle = 1 # 0 = flat, 1 = 3d-ish (gradient), 2 = 3d-ish (button)
listviewitemstyle = 1 # 0 = flat, 1 = 3d-ish (gradient)
progressbarstyle = 1 # 0 = candy bar, 1 = fancy candy bar, 2 = flat
animation = FALSE
}

# engine "clearlooks"
# {
# colorize_scrollbar = TRUE
# reliefstyle = 1
# menubarstyle = 2 # 0 = flat, 1 = sunken, 2 = flat gradient
# toolbarstyle = 1 # 0 = flat, 1 = enable effects
# animation = FALSE
# style = GUMMY

# Set a hint to disable backward compatibility fallbacks.
# hint = "use-hints"
# }

Thank you very much!

Yeah that works like a charm in ubuntu..
however, there are other distros... so
I have to figure out another way!

Thanks for posting that info here!!
so ubuntu users can benefit :D

It seems that this needs the absolute
newest version of clearlooks and that is
why people are having probs.... I will
try to figure out another way...
