Description:

A dark (black & white) theme for gnome desktop.
Thanks to Gnome Fanatic for the name!

I just recieved mail being told this
theme is the default in PCLOS Gnome 2008 !

More info and download here: http://linuxgator.org/

suggestions very welcome!

PLS! tell me what you think!

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!

To install:
1.Download the file to your desktop
2.Right click the file and select extract here, then another archive pops up,do
the same for that.
3.open a terminal and run these commands:

first
sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS /usr/share/themes

second (this one fixes firefox, don't need this for ff3, only 2 This fix is made by user twrock, so if he wants me to delete it i will)
cp /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/userChrome.css $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome

4.Open the theme manager, you can now
see the SlicknesS theme as a theme,
when you click on it , it suggests
taners amazing wallpaper he made for this theme!!
click apply to apply the wallpaper!

the icon theme it suggests is this one:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

any problems with the install let me know!!!!

One REALLY HUGE thank you to artist Taner
for his fantastic wallpaper!

Changelog:

2.2.2 probably the last update, this should
fix the message of an engine "" not installed
I can't try it myself if it works (since I don't have
gnome installed) so if anyone would be kind
to let me know if it works, it would be kind :)
This will probably be my last fix as I'm not on
gnome anymore.

2.2.1 Fixed my previous F**kup. (at least I hope so)
(it's been tested on ubunut 7.10). If anyone still
has any kind of problem please be so kind and let me
know!

To read full changelog read changelog.txt in
the SlicknesS folder.

 very cool!

This theme is THE best dark theme I've ever seen. It is so delicately designed and well implemented, every aspects of detail has a fine touch...

However, I found one annoying problem:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/24141133@N06/2290175197/

I cannot fix that using the darkfix script...

Is there any ideas Rob?

Thanks a lot!

Very nice. I love dark themes, especially the one like this. I also used Moomex etc, but NONE of these themes I tried is close to SlicknesS.

Black text on black background is a nightmare!

SlicknesS is THE BEST, and that's why I registered an account to post comments :)

Well thank you very much!!

The moomex theme is one of the best done here
at gnome-look, moomex really knows how to write code!

Thanks again.... I really don't know what else to say :D

btw, the firefox issue is fixed :)
I used a fix made by a user here at gnome-look.

Really like this theme, very nice work.
However there's a problem in firefox 3.

Tried to fix it myself with no luck.

This problem seems fixed in the latest 1.5.1...

Please read carefully the description (copy userChrome.css to your FF folder).

I do not like this theme near as much as when it was first shown. To much grey now. And firefox on first one didnt black out the history box. was able read. And yes i know about dark fix...but first one of slickness was much, Mainly because the removal of all the grey area's and the brightness of the blue and menu gave it a glow.

This theme is very good..just not as original compared to other dark themes as the first one u published was.

Best Regards
Sig

Thanks for the feedback!

Not sure what you mean with too much grey,
since I have made it more "whiter" in later releases.

I know I have changed a lot in this theme since
I posted it here, I'm finally starting to get pretty
comfortable with it now :) (not too many bugs and
I'm pretty happy with the contrasts of the graphics).

What exactly do you mean is too grey?

Thanks for commenting!

Hey guy,

guess the white you added is what I am talking about. But the main feature that was impressive in the first release was how you used a neon looking color to keep from the problem that all other black themes have I have used have. Seems in first one you color tone it to work all the way around. I am still using your first theme and will for a long time. Maybe after I do alittle more learning I can enhance it myself. also the sliders are best I have ever seen from a personal opinion(shape wise. color is good in either neon which I am using or black which you have them now.

Best Regards
Sig And thank you for the great theme. Much Appreciated.

first of all: a really great theme. For a long time I used clearlooks because it just worked. Your theme works nearly as good as clearlooks, but it looks much much better.
The only things I do not like so much and maybe some others to are the sliders!
The horizontal sliders are ok but the vertical slider handler looks a bit strange. Maybe something symmetrical would look better for example a circle, or whatever you can imagine. So just an idea hope you think about it.
As I said before I used the clearlooks theme and since I use your theme all stock images are lost. I does not know if this a known bug, but I think this is a bit pity. Also it is not only your theme which allows no stock icons. I think just the gnome themes like clealooks ore glossy allows stock icons. Maybe it is possible that you and the other gtk-theme-designer finds a way to make this possible :)

Thanks!! :D

First, I think your icon theme is something
revolutionary!! I think you started something new
with making that (really slick and just black and white) icon theme!
I think that's where I got the Idea to make an
black white theme....

As for the range, sure, I try to figure something else
out (wasn't really happy with those anyway),
if by stock icons you mean the icons on buttons?
If so then "it's not a bug, it's a feature", to enable
the button images just run in terminal:

sudo gedit /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

and on line 14:
gtk-button-images = 0

change that to

gtk-button-images = 1

save and re-apply the theme :)

First of all i want to say that this theme is absolutely THE BEST lookin black theme I've ever seen...Really REALLY good job! :)

I use your theme with firefox add-on called Nasa Night Launch (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4908)
And together they look really cool (firefox is almost black everywhere) , but this Nasa add-on has really awful scroll-bar's :/, and your newest theme's scrollbars are so fuckin cool I was wondering is there any way I can merge them?
I mean I want to have my firefox all black (like when using this Nasa addon) with your sexy scrollbars at the same time - is it possible?)
Or maybe u can make some sexy black-firefox add-on like this Nasa Night Launch aswell?:D:D:D
Just a thought ;)
thx!:)

Sorry to be a pain :) I found another problem with the Gimp:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/24141133@N06/2294013538/

Don't know if it is gimp specific, or a general GTK theme issue? Can you fix that?

Thanks a lot!

Shannon

no clue right now so it may take a while :)

Really wonderful work. I'm using it with Xfce and I was wondering if you planned an Xfwm4 theme.

If not, may I ask you for this feature?

Thnx! Keep up the good work!

Thank you!!

Well, of course you can ask :D ,there is one problem tho,

I don't have any idea on how to port this theme to
xfwm4 , however , if you do use compiz/beryl
and emerald , you can dload the emerald theme :)

get it here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/SlicknesS+Emerald?content=73972

If someone knows how to port it and is willing to do
it , that would be very welcome :)

I'll probably give a try when I'll find a moment. Compiz has some problems with Xfce, and I don't like too much the heavy mess of compiz effects :)

Thank you for the answer. It is nice to meet "user-friendly" developers as you :P
