Description:

A dark (black & white) theme for gnome desktop.
Thanks to Gnome Fanatic for the name!

I just recieved mail being told this
theme is the default in PCLOS Gnome 2008 !

More info and download here: http://linuxgator.org/

suggestions very welcome!

PLS! tell me what you think!

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!

To install:
1.Download the file to your desktop
2.Right click the file and select extract here, then another archive pops up,do
the same for that.
3.open a terminal and run these commands:

first
sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS /usr/share/themes

second (this one fixes firefox, don't need this for ff3, only 2 This fix is made by user twrock, so if he wants me to delete it i will)
cp /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/userChrome.css $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome

4.Open the theme manager, you can now
see the SlicknesS theme as a theme,
when you click on it , it suggests
taners amazing wallpaper he made for this theme!!
click apply to apply the wallpaper!

the icon theme it suggests is this one:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

any problems with the install let me know!!!!

One REALLY HUGE thank you to artist Taner
for his fantastic wallpaper!

Changelog:

2.2.2 probably the last update, this should
fix the message of an engine "" not installed
I can't try it myself if it works (since I don't have
gnome installed) so if anyone would be kind
to let me know if it works, it would be kind :)
This will probably be my last fix as I'm not on
gnome anymore.

2.2.1 Fixed my previous F**kup. (at least I hope so)
(it's been tested on ubunut 7.10). If anyone still
has any kind of problem please be so kind and let me
know!

To read full changelog read changelog.txt in
the SlicknesS folder.

Hello there!

I really like your theme, I use it on my desktop and laptop :) just a couple of questions, do you know how to convert the metacity window decoration theme into xfce window decorator? I ask as I run xfce4.4 on my laptop and although the gtk theme is brill its not quite the same with out the window decoration. Also, do you know how to change the text colour of the previously typed urls and searches in Firefox? as these come up with the web 2.0 ish background like the context menus however the text is black and therefore unreadable. Thanks again for the brill theme.

Dan

Thank you for your compliments!!

To fix firefox problems go here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Darkfix+%28+easy+fix+for+browsers+%29?content=74504

it is a very easy to use script made to fix
browser issues.

As for the window decoration I have no
clue on how to port it to xfce...
...however if you use compiz you can install
emerald and dload the slickness emerald
theme, get it here:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/SlicknesS+Emerald?content=73972
Thanks for using my theme!

Hope this helps!

//Robert

Hi there, love your theme, a real breath of fresh air from all the vista look-alike themes out there. I'd really like to know what icon theme you use? thanks

Also, What values did you enter for the transparency in the panels? And where?

Thanks

Thank you very much!!!

the icon theme is this one :

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

for transparency I use compiz-fusion window
manager, just enable it and move the mousepointer
over the panel and hold down alt and then scroll.

If you don't have compiz fusion then get it here:

 seet theme...

your theme rocks!! one problem though, my volume control applet from the panel started failing after installing your theme. when I log in to the pc, error pops up saying the applet had to shutdown. Another thing, the text for the drop down menus in firefox is black, and the drop down menu background is black. the text will turn white when you point your cursor over them. I will try to run the darkfix script again

That's how I roll

Thank you!

darkfix should fix the firefox problem...
I can check it out.

You are the first to have the volume applet
problem (as far as I know) , it has always
worked fine for me (I don't see how that
could be related to the theme), could you
try to re-add the applet to the panel and
see if problem is still there?

btw, what distro are you using?

Thank you for the feeback!

Well, figured out the volume applet doesn't have to deal with the theme. But as far as the dark text, I've tried it several times with different options, and supposedly the script says the text is fixed, but not for the drop down menus. Like I said previously, the drop down menus in firefox(i.e. the url drop down menu) have the same background color as the menus in gnome(for example the start menu, or if you right click on something), so the text is unreadable.

okey, I'm sorry, I don't use firefox myself
so I'm not experiencing the problem

I will provide another fix for it when
I have one figured out :)

At first wanna thank for GREAT theme, it is one of the best I've ever seen.

I've found small bug in XFCE: in some gtk apps (gimp. bluefish..) small light streak is located in the upper part of main-menus (this streak is button for open menu in own window) ...
Dunno if this appears also in gnome, but the solution is add bg_pixmap[NORMAL] straight to style "menu" and set it to some dark image

Ahhh beacause of that excitement I forgot to ask some noobish questions ;)
I was looking at screenshots of Your desktop, and I keep wondering - how can I get this ying-yang hmm start button like you have there? And also this Gnome-like icon for Quick-Desktop? How do I change those? Is there some kind of proggy that can do that? (Yeah I'm just starting to learn linux so please bear with me :P)
Oh and one more thing - U have some kind of play-bar (xmms?) on your upper menu bar - I want one of those aswell ;) Is it for music player or video player? And HOW did u do that ? :)

Uhh thats all :) Now sorry for those newbie-questions but I would reeaaallyyy like to have my desktop exactly like yours :)
Greetz!

:D

Well thank you again man!!!

I don't really know what to say :D

I'm very happy that you like my work!!!

well.. the icon theme I use is this one:
http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

it changes the jinjan icon aswell :D

as for the gnome-button it is the main menu and not
the show desktop icon (I have re-arranged the panels quite a bit)

I included it in the package, it's located in the
/gtk-2.0/panel folder named menu something
(I don't remember exactly how I named it)

the playback control in upper panel is for audacious
(based on xmms) and those are just normal png
icons I have associated with commands (launchers)
for example the play button when clicked executes
the command audacious --play and so on....

If you have more questions you know how to
contact me :)

hehe, could be they are compressed 2 times
so first extract the folder inside the archive
then if it's another archive, extract it to
/usr/share/icons (do this as root)

as for the transparency I use compiz-fusion
window manager.

hope this helps!
