Description:

A dark (black & white) theme for gnome desktop.
Thanks to Gnome Fanatic for the name!

I just recieved mail being told this
theme is the default in PCLOS Gnome 2008 !

More info and download here: http://linuxgator.org/

suggestions very welcome!

PLS! tell me what you think!

!!!!IMPORTANT!!!!!

To install:
1.Download the file to your desktop
2.Right click the file and select extract here, then another archive pops up,do
the same for that.
3.open a terminal and run these commands:

first
sudo cp -r $HOME/Desktop/SlicknesS /usr/share/themes

second (this one fixes firefox, don't need this for ff3, only 2 This fix is made by user twrock, so if he wants me to delete it i will)
cp /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/userChrome.css $HOME/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/chrome

4.Open the theme manager, you can now
see the SlicknesS theme as a theme,
when you click on it , it suggests
taners amazing wallpaper he made for this theme!!
click apply to apply the wallpaper!

the icon theme it suggests is this one:

http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/black-white+2+Style?content=72619

any problems with the install let me know!!!!

One REALLY HUGE thank you to artist Taner
for his fantastic wallpaper!

Changelog:

2.2.2 probably the last update, this should
fix the message of an engine "" not installed
I can't try it myself if it works (since I don't have
gnome installed) so if anyone would be kind
to let me know if it works, it would be kind :)
This will probably be my last fix as I'm not on
gnome anymore.

2.2.1 Fixed my previous F**kup. (at least I hope so)
(it's been tested on ubunut 7.10). If anyone still
has any kind of problem please be so kind and let me
know!

To read full changelog read changelog.txt in
the SlicknesS folder.

Really good job!

how can i get bigger icons in the application bar menus? (like default themes). It seems so small for me, and i would like to set normal size.

Thanks!

(and please, forgive my bad english...)

Thank you!

to get bigger menu icons:

gedit $HOME/.themes/SlicknesS/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

or if you followed my install instructions:

sudo gedit /usr/share/themes/SlicknesS/gtk-2.0/gtkrc

and on line 12 gtk-icon-sizes = "panel-menu=16,16" change to
gtk-icon-sizes = "panel-menu=22,22"

or whatever size you wish :)
then save, log out and in and you are done :)

btw ,this will make the icons enter the
"dark" area of the menu.

hope this helps

 theme manager?

by scooby on: Feb 17 2008

I really like Slickness Black, but use this mostly because I prefer my input boxes in white with black text. I was wondering if you were ever planning on making it so you can change the colors in this theme a little using gnome theme manager (like you can in slickness black)?

By the way, keep up the good work and thanks a lot for your themes!

Thank you!

I have been trying and meaning to implement
that function in this theme too... it's just
that I use a few workarounds to rid some
really nasty bugs,so as it is now I see
no solution in fixing those bugs another
way so I could implement that function.

It was easier in slickness black cause
there I don't need similar bugfixes because
the hole thing is black :D

If I find a way to rid the bugs another
way I will implement the colorscheme
support, however , it looks like that's
never gonna happen right now :(

Thanks for the feedback!

 About: Slickness

 by rdlf1024 on: Feb 19 2008

Score 50%

To be honest, this one provides a good feeling...very very close to the vista one..anyway. In the end, I decided to give it a chance...

The gnome-panel looks REALLY amazing. Unfortunately, the buttons are well positioned when gnome-panel is set to the bottom.

The menu is spectacular. I liked the 'glass' effect.

The window layout comes out of the box because it's weird. Why not leave it just as grey?

The window title's background deserves more attention. I mean, if window is in use, it will be gray and title font is white. If another window is in use, this one's background color will be set to white and font to black. very confusing (and hard) to get used to it.

And one more thing, this one gets me upset: submenu options background are all set to BLACK! If you don't get it, try opening a combo box and check what you've done.

Anyway, it's a very interesting project! Keep up the good job!

My final score: 7.4/10

Well thank you!

Vista one? this theme is nowhere near what
vista is... maybe the panel a little but
every dark panel looks like the vista one.

Now that you mention it I see that the buttons
are best positioned when panel is at bottom
(well, I have always has the tasklist at
the bottom since it is the most natural there,I know many people use dock, but I
don't really like docks, I have tried many
different docks but I still prefer gnome
panel)

If you by the window layout mean that weird pattern I used for the newest
version then yeah, it's weird and it wasn't
actually ment to be there :D (just something
I tried out and forgot to remove)

The titlebar text is white on active windows
and greyish on inactive windows (so that you can easily see
which ones are active and which ones
are inactive (no font is black on titlebar that I know of)

About submenues, if you mean the ones
that are named "GtkCombo" in the widget factory
then yes, they are ugly and all black
but I haven't yet used an app that actually
used those, where are those used? I read
somewhere that they are old and not used
anymore, is this incorrect?

Anyway, I want to give you a huge thanks
for taking the time and writing an absolutely
amazing comment on my work!
I also want to thank for your kind words
on the stuff you liked in the theme :)

All the best!

//Robert
