I'm looking for a new desktop icon for Yakuake, any chance you could add it to your superb icon-set?

Thanks!

First off, great icon set! I really enjoy using these; they go great with my dark theme. Would it be possible, however, to add a Yast2 icon?

 Python buildscript

by LocoMojo on: Jan 2 2008

Hey Mentalrey,

I grew impatient with the included Bash buildscript so I wrote up a new one using Python and PIL (Python Imaging Library). I was absolutely gobsmacked to find that it decreased the processing time from an average of 18 minutes and 49 seconds to an average of 5 minutes and 24 seconds on my machine. Not only that, it also decreased the tarfile size from 125MB to 66MB. Uncompressed, it's 165MB vs. 98MB.

I was a bit perplexed at this as I was only hoping for minimal improvements, if any. I did a little investigating and found that when the Bash script used convert to resize the icons it also converted the icons from 8-bit to 16-bit format. This, IMHO, is a total waste of time and space because you don't get any more information in 16-bit files converted from 8-bit source files. Please do correct me if I'm wrong, but I examined the files very closely and I don't see any difference between the 8-bit and 16-bit icons. In fact, when I enlarged the icons for closer viewing, I saw that the 16-bit icons degraded more quickly than the 8-bit icons. I imagine, however, you would see some gains if the source files were 16-bit to begin with, but as it is now, there's no gain.

Anyway, let me know if you want to see my script for yourself and I'll send it to you.

so i think all iconmakers wanna see your script!
i dunno why the bash transform pictures in 16 bit format
I can conseder only if is for a best antialias...but i'm not shure.
And yes, is too long the actual script.
If You want you can try to post your script in
section "Other"
and we try to do some experiment on it.
^_^

Tkes for the info!

Hi Mentalrey,

This script that I wrote will only work with your iconset or any other iconset that gives only a 128x128 directory of icons to resize. It won't work with other iconsets such as 'Breathless', for example, because Breathless includes 128x128 and 32x32 directories of icons to be resized.

I'm sure I could work on it to get it to work with most, if not all, iconsets. I was just goofing off with your iconset and wrote the script specifically for your source layout.

It wouldn't make sense for me to release it to the public if it will only work with your icons. I was just playing around and I was astonished to see a difference between my buildset script and the one you're using so I just wanted to tell you about it.

Cheers,
LocoMojo

Mentalrey,

I had some time this evening so I went ahead and did some more with buildscript.py. It plays a little better with other iconsets now so I went ahead and released it.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Cheers,

It's just that its only available in KDE, will you port these to gnome, or is there a way to do it myself?

Great work!

Hi mentalrey,
your iconset is incredible. I'm using the set since you released the first version. I'm looking for an icon for krusader. Is it possible you create one in the style of the icon set?
