- Bugfix: KShowmail has crashed while showing an empty mail.

- handbook was written by Otmar Mak (english and german) and our translators have translated it into spanish, italien and dutch

 install on kubuntu 8.10 ????

 by guigui357 on: Dec 24 2008

Score 50%

Hi,

i've installed kubuntu 8.10 and i cannot get kshowmail to work...

when i've tried to compile, i got several dependencies problems.
After having installed a bunch of -dev packages, i still get stuck with the following one:

"checking for headers /usr/include/kde/mimelib/mimepp.h and /usr/include/kde/mimelib/datetime.h...
configure: error: Headers /usr/include/kde/mimelib/mimepp.h or /usr/include/kde/mimelib/datetime.h not found.
Please install kdepim devel package.
"

installing this kdepim package doesn't change anything. using apt-file, impossible to find any package containing mimepp.h or mimelib/datetime.h

I also tried to convert a rpm using alien. Conversion goes fine, i've got my .deb that i can install using dpkg.
However, when i launch kshowmail, i get the following:
"kshowmail: error while loading shared libraries: libmimelib.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory."

apt-file cannot find it. Google tells me it's in a package called libmimelib1c2a.
Problem : the package libmimelib1c2a no longer exists in intrepid...

Any idea how to do then ?
Is a new version using qt4 and kde4 librairies only planned in a near future ?

Hi!

You have to install the Devel-Package of kdepim. In this are the header files which the compiler need to work.

Of course I plan a KShowmail 4.0 for KDE4. But I have just few time and KDevelop4 (my favorite development tools) is not ready for work yet. Please be patient.

Great news that a kde 4 version is on the way. It works fine with kde 4.2 opensuse using the kde 3.5 libaries by the way.

 Debian (SID) Package

by Kwellmeister on: Mar 16 2009

Here is a package for Debian (Unstable), made under and only tested with "sidux"

http://sidux.com

for kde 3.5.10. It's not a "checkinstall" gimmick, but made with the debian package build system elaboratively. Should work with (K)ubuntu too.

Pick it up here:

Thx
Harry

Dear Ulrich!
KDE4 already came on our desktops and notebooks and I think it came forever... :)
You are our hope and we wait for new version of KShowmail. Excuse me and my colleagues for this reminding, but your application is very needed for our work. Thank you.

I too am eager to hear news about KDE4. My main system is PCLinuxOS and the lack of kshowmail is the only reason that has prevented me from switching from KDE3 to KDE4.
That goes also as a thanks to the creator of this marvelous app.
