- Bugfix: KShowmail has crashed while showing an empty mail.
- You can export and import the filter settings
- handbook was written by Otmar Mak (english and german) and our translators have translated it into spanish, italien and dutch

 ./configure error

 by johanneke on: May 10 2008

Hello,
I like to use this program because I am used to mailwasher and miss such thing in Linux.

But... If I use "apt-get install kshowmail" to install and start using the program I get this error after refreshing my accounts;
Authorization failed, An error occured during authentication: SASL(-7): invalid parameter supplied: Parameter error in client.c near line 440 authentication not supported.

So I thought of downloading the source from sourceforge.net (Version: 3.3) and compile it myself because maybe there was something broken or so... But after running ./configure I get this 2 errors

- "at the end of configure it says"
configure: creating ./config.status
wrong input (flag != 4) at admin/conf.change.pl line 117, <> line 1231.
config.status: creating Makefile

config.status: creating pics/Makefile
config.status: creating po/Makefile
config.status: creating sounds/Makefile
config.status: creating config.h
config.status: config.h is unchanged
config.status: executing depfiles commands

Good - your configure finished. Start make now

So I ran "make" and this error comes up;
make
cd . && /bin/bash /home/trips/Desktop/kshowmail-3.3.0/kshowmail-3.3.0/admin/missing --run aclocal-1.9
/home/trips/Desktop/kshowmail-3.3.0/kshowmail-3.3.0/admin/missing: line 52: aclocal-1.9: command not found

running CONFIG_SHELL=/bin/bash /bin/bash ./configure --no-create --no-recursion
/bin/bash: ./configure: No such file or directory
make: *** [config.status] Error 127

It seems to me that somewhere on the line it looses the configure file (it is there if I check it after ./configure)

I am a noob on compiling things in Linux, so a little help is very appreciated.

<edit while typing this>
after a few retries suddenly the "make" command goes all the way to the end and I was able to do the "sudo make install"
But to no prevail, the first error still comes up after refreshing my accounts.

Just for the record, I have 3 accounts in kshowmail, 1 is working and the other 2, that are from the same domain, do not and produce the first error.
I tried to only put one of the two as the only account, but that does not work either... HELP!
</edit while typing this>

For the one account that works this is a great tool... the only thing I miss is the option to bounce back the mail, as if it came from postmaster (mail undeliverable).

Keep it up.

Try it with SSL (Port 995). You find it in the server setup dialog on the security tab. Please tell me the result.

There are two reasons not implement it:
First, this is a feature of the SMTP protocol between the sending mail client and the server. To send such a message after kshowmail has get the spam would be a bad fake.
Second, I use the pop3 kioslave of KDE to query the mails. This library doesn't support to send mails. I would have to write the network code on my own.

For the compile problem I have no explication.

If I try that, it says that it could not make a connection to the server.

And I understand completely why you would not implement the "Send mail" function.

Thanks for the help anyway, maybe it is my provider that is buggy. I have to do without, no problem.

I use orange.fr and exchange.active24.com for pop3...
The Orange one is working, I have problems with exchange.active24.com

Thanks for looking into this by the way... much appreciated.

I guess one need a domain at active24 to use its mail service.
Are you familiar with Wireshark? Can you send me a communication recording between your kshowmail and active24? Maybe I can see something. (Please remove your login data)

Please answer to my mail address. You find it in the help dialog of kshowmail.

I installed the Fedora 9 rpm, and Kshowmail launches, but there is no menu item to add/configure accounts.

If the package is not broken, you will find it in the application configuration dialog. Please tell me, if the package is not usable.

I found it. I guess I was looking for accounts as a separate menu item like in Thunderbird, but I don't know how I missed it in configuration. My bad.
