Description:

On most system you must enter a password to verify your identity. Users choose often unsafe passwords and entering passwords is annoying. It exists alternatives (fingerprint, chipcards) but they cost money.
So my Idea can used on (nearly) all comuters and is for the most users free.
Here it is:
Verifying the Identity with a normal USB flash drive. Instead of entering a username and password, the User plug in a USB flash drive. When it's plugged in, the KDM looks for a file where the key is stored. With this key and a uid of the flash drive (if a flash drive has one, i don't know it, if not a id of size, manufactor, product name or sth.) the KDM create a new key. If the key complies with the one that is saved on the computer, the user the is linked with the key will be logged in. (The User have also a normal password, for the tty, ssh, ...)
I think this can also used for the screensaver and kwalletmanager.

I created a little mockup. You can view it in your browser. It's optimized for Firefox (or all other who using the Gecko Rendering Engine). You can view it in Konqueror, but it looks not so cool. :)

seems more like something to be added to Linux as a module, not so much a KDE thing. But of course, if this was added to Linux, it would be nice to see KDE support it.

Hope is just wishing for the opposite of what you know is going to happen anyway.

Once I tried to do something similar using Bluetooth cell phone:

get nearby and your session unlocks or you're logged in

get out of reach and your session locks

I remember it worked pretty well but sometimes something gone wrong and made the session being locked again and again.

Maybe something like this could be included in KDE4? ;)

You don’t understand, I break things like this!
