Description:

My opinion on those in power summed up in an image.

I respect the men and women in the armed forces an incredible ammount becuase they're willing to die for what they believe however I don't respect the rich people who sit thousands of miles away making comments and treating human life like a commodity.

 Why...

by aaronjb on: Apr 8 2003

...does every site on the Internet with a messageboard (or one that has content uploads) have to have a disucssion that's war related (or war-related but otherwise off-topic content)? It's mind boggling. All I can do is sigh.

What does the text say? It it in English?

The discussion will not be war related it hopefully will be related to the image in question. It just so happens that the image has a theme of war and the social divide which pushes nations towards it. But, the theme is set by the artist, it isn't our place.

Good work ash!

I wasn't trying to be argumentative, I like the work. I was hoping comments like the one Chriswhatever made below wouldn't make it here, but it's inevitable. Everyone with a keyboard has an opinion, we all know that. Unfortunately it's the uniformed on both sides of any debate that are the most vocal, which makes each side look like foolish.

I'm sure most of us come to kde-look for kde related material; there are countless other places for this silly discussion to go on.

I'm sorry it doesn't fit your taste. I didn't ask anyone to like it. It's my opinion.

It says "terror".

 Terror?

You obviously have no idea what terror is. Maybe you should speak to a few of the hundreds of children that were inprisoned by the Saddam regime. Their crime, not joining the children's Baath Party. Maybe speak with PVC Lynch, after she recovers from her wounds being tortured by the Saddam regime. Better yet, speak to the Kurds about the terror of chemical weapons. Ash, you have the right to discent, but to equate the US with terror is going too far. You are either a uninformedj/brainwashed adolescent or a marxist/communist supporter. In either case, I'm losing my patience with your type. Crappy art that is only meant to troll responses should be kept off this site. They are plenty of forums where people will eat this kind of sh*t up. Send it to them!

Have I mentioned the war in Iraq?
No
I put my comment because I knew people would jump to conclusions and automatically think it's about war.

Terror doesn't have to come yeilding a weapon... but of course you knew that.(Microsoft are an example). Did I say the war in Iraq is terrorism? You only think that becuase you want to. I support the war... it's moral to remove an oppressive dictator who's murdered his own people because they're entitled to an opinion.

I might sound like a hypocrite... but who cares, I know what I mean.

Also, you referred to it as "crappy art"... you speak as if you're a great artist which I strongly doubt.

You got that right! :-) I'm assuming you really don't care for the people running the US right now...trust me, you're not alone on that one.

Ok, you can be silent. One of the main factors of this *free* software movement is freedom, the freedom of software, expression and choice. KDE plays prominant role in this movement, and if a contribution to the movement (ie, this background) offends you in anyway (due to personal opinion) then you have no right what so ever to say it should be removed. You simply ignore it. This is ART, it can be contraversal and should be based on the opionion of the artist. This isn't a pro-American website which refuses to publish information against other opinions, this isn't a pro-War site, this isn't a political site, this is a site dedicated to art work and improvements to the KDE project. That is just what this is. Keep your politicial views to yourself, it is upto each individual person to say weather or not they agree with the leadership of a country and if you hadn't noticed in the introduction to the image ash933 even states that he respects those in the armed forces so yes, that includes PV Lynch. (As a side note, what about the thousands of Iraqi POWs or the thousands illegally kept in camp XRAY, Cuba?).

You also make references to Markism and communism... May I ask why if someone is supposedly anti-American, or more to the point, anti-Bush that makes him a communist or a folllower of communism? That seems a very very uninformed judgement on a site which follows one of the largest social (with refernces to socialism!) movements for the last 20 years!

So in conclusion, shut up, and judge the art. It looks nice, well done ash.

"Maybe you should speak to a few of the hundreds of children that were inprisoned by the Saddam regime."

Yeah! And don't forget to talk to the thousands that suffered due to sanctions imposed by the good ole US of A!

"You are either a uninformedj/brainwashed adolescent or a marxist/communist supporter. "

That's right. One or the other. There is no in-between. You either support war, or you are a traitor! You hear me!?! A traitor! Not one of us 'Mericans! Must be one of them pinko commies!

"They are plenty of forums where people will eat this kind of sh*t up."

Well, not really. In my experience, whenever someone tries to voice their opinion about peace, or how much of a terror network the USA is (that's right!), they get flamed by some spoiled white guy spouting ignorance, while claiming education. Freedom of speech, just watch what you say, right (see : Emma Goldman)?

"...you have the right to discent, but to equate the US with terror is going too far..."

Too far? Thanks for clearing that up. Good to know SOMEONE is straightening out these rules, because that's exactly what the United States needs, is more people trying to impose their will on other people. Good for you, fascist. You have no idea how completely you undermine you own ideals by saying some of these things.
Burn any peace flags lately? At what point should we start bombing Ash for his opinion, and going too far? Maybe just a little mace instead.

stand for what we believe in.
I am for peace.
I believe this war is for oil.
I won't try to convince anyone.
Everyone should read more than one source of opinion and make its own.

I find it very interesting that the more agressive comment comes from someone who agrees with the ideas of the poster (if I understand correctly, the poster agrees with war). Something to think about!

To come back on topic, I don't like this wallpaper.
It looks like a disco ad, and it doesn't go well with the meaning of the word. You the poster wanted to express a feeling, make people react to something that makes you react. To some people, this is the definition of art. Sorry, not for me. Even if the dictionnary one day says that _this_ is the definition, I will stay with my old definition of art: something that makes me feel good when I see, touch or hear it.
This one definetly doesn't.
sorry, but you asked for it.
