Description:

I was thinking about new Ideas for Filemanagement since first I read about Dolphin. I like the idea of Having a user Friendly File Manager, which supports the User.

What I dislike in the modern FileManagers (an all Actual Oses as far as I know) iss, that you are bound to the actual folder to select Files

In times where we have hundreds of PDFs, thousands of pictures and multimedia files, this is not the right way any more.

My Idea is to get an Element Stack, where you can push and pop Items/Folders from anywhere, by klicking some Button or Mouse Action.

My Graphical Skills are really not so good, so I just added my idea of signalling which items are already stacked to this http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=52738 great mockup.

But for better understanding, just watch this movie.

http://www.themerlinshow.com/ep/006-howto-quicksilver-comma-trick

This OS X Tool does exactly, what I mean.

A Shelf-style(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shelf_(computing)) bar or application would be nice. :-)

this iss nice, but not what i meant.

the bumptop desktop was in discussion about to be a way to kde to konquer the third dimension.
http://techbase.kde.org/Schedules/KDE4/Goals

but i don't think that a desktop like this is useable until we have multitouch displays or 3d input devices like in some scifi movies.

On possible way to integrate this feature in dolphin without cluttering the interface is by provide a "special" border in the bottom of the list view. Let me call it stack area.

Imagine this use case:
1) The user starts dragging one or several icons
2) The stack area becomes visible, that is, delimits the drop zone
3) User drop selection in that area
4) a new icon stack becomes permanently visible in the bottom of the list view
- can include mimetype icon if all items in the stack are of the same type
- can include item count
5) User selects more icons and drop in the are creating new stack
6) User selects more icons and drops in an existing stack, items are added
7) User drags one stack to the other merging stacks
8) User changes directory
9) User drags stack from area to the list view generating a move action for all the items in the stack
- after the operation, the stack disappears and so does the stack area in the bottom
