This could be done via a simple extension of the functionality already offered by the ".directory" files. Example (~/Desktop/.directory):

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Type=Directory
BgImage=
Icon=desktop
StickyNote="This text appears on the sticky note."

okay, if it's what i'm thinking of and extends the metaphor; like a sticky on a folder. especially with the way the oxygen icons are shaping up; i can totally see like "To Marketing!" in red ink on a little yellow sticky on a folder. I'd also like to see color coding of folders, nothing garish or like 16 million custom colors, but complementing the oxygen pallete.

well some of these things wil almost certainly come, you might later on write a little document on 'extending icons' or something, describing some ideas, and post here/link here and send a mail to kde-usability & some relevant KDE dev's about it.
