Description:

This is my best OSX look yet. I'm finally at least somewhat satisfied that it looks very much like OSX. There are only two problems. One, the close, minimize, and maximize buttons are on the right, not the left, but I suppose its not possible to change their position with normal Compiz (I don't use Beryl). The seccond problem is that I can't seem to change the background color of Engage (the dock bar) to be translucent, or anything other than pure white or completely gone. Those problems aside, I think that I have achieved the ultimate combination of themes and borders. Now I will tell you how I did it:

Gtk2--Milke 2.3 (slightly modded the scrollbars so that they were the nice beutiful blue of OSX)

Borders--Zote osX whats so great about these is that they blend to a certian degree with almost any white ish theme, leaving me with a nice borderless feel.

Icons--OSX (found here)

panel: This part was hard. First I created the cool background. The rounded edges are not part of the background of the panel, they are in the background of the buttons which I used the same background as the panel for. Thus, they melted together perfectly and I have panel buttons bigger than simply the icon itself. I did this for the main menu and the search icon. No modding to Milke 2.3 is nessecary to fix this theme for the tray icons becuase they will be unnaffected.

Comments...critiques...compliments...scathing remarks--all welcomed and expected! Especially if you have any way to improve it further!

 Suggests

Hi !
Nice screenshot :)
Actually working on such a gnome-look, I'll give you my ideas to make your better :
- Use another Apple icon for the main menu.
- Maybe change the police style
- Change the tray icons (if you find a good network-manager tray icon, tell me !)

Anyway, which dock are you using ?

Gnico

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll get to work right away. I guess I'll have to agree the apple isn't good enough, ive seen better and ill get those ASAP. As for the dock on the bottom, It's "Engage" a porting of the dock from the Enlightenment Window Manager. It is not nessecary to install most of the distro just to get the dock however, there is a standalone version availiable for all of the other distros. A great howto can be found at http://dnnd.netsons.org. Concerning the tray icons, I don't know how to fix those. I forgot to add them as a problem. If any more informed individuals know and are willing to tell me, I'll be sure to broadcast the information here! Thanks for the suggestion!

I've already found some :
- nm-applet : /usr/share/icons/hicolor/22x22/apps/
- gaim : /usr/share/gaim/

The music player Quod Libet fits well with a MacOSX theme.

As far as Engage is concerned, is this smooth? Are you using it with beryl ?

Engage is amazingly smooth and, I think, less sporatic than kxdocker. I am using it with compiz normal, not beryl, but I have used it with beryl and it works just as well. two things you may want to know about it though: 1, it will only draw itself on one desktop so you'll have to sacrifice the use of the others to enjoy it. also, when zooming, it is below the windows. hope this helps!

Why another Mac OS X theme?? there's a bunch of them here already, why another? what makes your theme 'special' or different?

 Button Layout

If you want to invert your minimize, maximize, close buttons you just have to open gconf-editor, then aps, in my case i use metacity so i looked for the metacity folder, then general and finally modify the button lay-out key something like this: close, minimize, maximize:menu

Good Luck!
