Hi!

I observe a stange and irreproducible behaviour with amakode 1.3. I remember, I also had it with 1.0, so the problems must be in the original code somewhere:

Ocasionally I get errors, I think it is the file-copying after the coding, because amacode works on the file for some time and then amarok spits out an error message saying: copying of the file "///file:/tmp/transcode-1234.mp3 to /media/sda1/music/test.mp3 failed"

I tried to catch the log file from /tmp/transcode-12345.log, but this file gets deleted immediately after the error message is displayed in amarok. In contrast, the coded output *.mp3 file is not removed from /tmp. I believe the behaviour should be the other way round...

So, I end up with an amarok transfer queue window with 90% of the files successfully transferred and 10% not. Those failed files remain in the window, and if I transfer them again, they get re-coded successuflly in 90% of the cases. So, after a few tries all my music is re-encoded successfully...

Very strange, isn't it??

Amakode deletes the log if it thinks the transcode was successful. For it to think that the decoder/encoder must have exited with zero status.

I would say that Amarok is trying to transfer the files and failing somehow but it's hard to say why (filename issues maybe?)

If you want to double check amakode you can put a # in front of the line "os.unlink(self.errfname)" (line 246 in 1.4) and it won't delete the log file.

converting problem

Hello

I have a Problem with AmaKode while converting ogg to mp3 when I put some files on my iPod. The timeinformations in the mp3 file are wrong.iPod (and Amarok) tells me something between 15 and 25 minutes, but the song is only 5 minutes. However, if I use the tools ogg123 to make a wav and then lame to make a mp3, the time is right (with the same parameters as amaKode use). If I use the AmaKode Script the time is broken and some songs dont play correct. Have you any ideas?

Hmm, I haven't noticed that but I don't use an iPod.

The header for the mp3 will not have a length because lame is writing to a pipe when called from Amakode.

I don't really want to un-pipe Amakode because that would remove any advantage gained by a multi-core system.

You could try changing the lame options to use a fixed bitrate - perhaps the iPod only does a naive length calculation and assumes a fixed bit rate.

If you know of a tool that can fix up the mp3 post encode I'd be interested. I guess the other option would be to alter how the encoders run so they write a file directly.. (But pipes are the unix way :)

The same problem can be seen if the created mp3 is played with mplayer also. In my case I found it out when I was converting flac to mp3. I tested it and it seems that lame is creating something wrong when using pipe and abr or vbr.

My fix was to change the mp3 encode to
encode["mp3"] = ["lame", "-", "-"]
This fixed the problem.

- Download amakode-1.4.amarokscript.tar.gz
- Run Amarok.
- Go to the Tools menu and select Script Manager.
- Click Install Script and point it at where you downloaded Amakode.
- Open the Transcoding tree on the right, click on Amarok and then click on the Run button.
- Click the Close button.

Once you do that you can set your media device up in Amarok and when it needs to transcode (ie depending on what options you've set) it will call Amakode.

Convert to WAV

Hello there,

I'm trying to automatically convert flac files from my collection to wav as my audio player cannot handle flac itself. The Encoding path flac->mp3 works flawlessly, but I fail to setup flac->wav as the script has no encoding option for wav. I'm not familiar with python, so maybe somebody can tell me how to simply "encode"/save the wav stream.

(Make sure it is indented with the rest otherwise Python will puke)

I already tried passing it to a program that simply does nothing without it, but miserably failed in doing so. Python's just not my world ;-)

For being the perfect script, only wav-tags are missing now. But that's something I can gladly live with.

well, I haven't gone too deep into it but my car stereo claims to be able to read Wave Tags (what ever that means).

So far, all I got on wav tags:

- amarok can't write them
- id3 seems to break the wav container
- there's something called broadcast wave which supports some kind of tagging
- a RIFF chunk should also work (no idea how)
- audacity claims to be able to edit meta info, but fails to do so (don't know why yet)

as soon a I find some way to add a tag to a wav file in commandline, I'll post it here

Daniel has kindly allowed me to pick up maintenance of Amakode now that he is no longer using it. I have some bug fixes in the pipeline which I hope to have ready to release asap.

Please check out sourceforge for beta versions, or reporting any bugs.

I've had a problem using amakode : my system's locale are utf8 and when a tag contained utf8 characters I got an error like "ascii codec can't handle this". I simply added .encode('iso8859-15') to tags :
