Really like AmarokPidgin.

One feature request. Could you change the default settings to:

status

and

(8) $artist - $title ($album)

This will be inline with other applications like MSN and AmarokAMSN

 Pidgin 2.4.0 poblems

 by hbbs on: Mar 2 2008

Score 50%

I have just installed this script and it doesn't seems to work with the newest pidgin version 2.4.0.

I set to Media on the Status box, everything shows as supposed to. But, my friends on Gtalk (MSN either) do not see my status message with the track playing.

Ubuntu 7.10 64 bits + pidgin 2.4.0 + AmaroK 1.4.8 + Amarok/Pidgin 1.0.8

Anyone?

I'm havent tried pidgin 2.4 yet, but are you sure you are selecting the media status in pidgin? Also pidgin doesnt support MSN status messages, but gtalk should work.

Thanks for replying.

That's for sure. I am selecting the media on the status box. I have some more info to share with you guys, perhaps it will shed some light on this problem.

When I selected the "Media" on the Status box, it never gets green on the "button" besides, it always stays grey (like on invisble mode) and never green (available) like I saw on some Amarok/Pidgin screenshots.

It shows the now playing message, but like i said it before, none of my Gtalk friends can't seet it. Also at my Orkut profile there are no additional information beyond my Gtalk network status.

Using MSN, ICQ and Gtalk simultaneously Amarok/pidgin always reset my MSN and ICQ network status to Invisble - every time the next song begins to play. On Gtalk this issue does not occur.

PS: I use MyStatusBox plugin to independently use different network status.

I hope it helps.

Thanks for reading.

This happened in an older version of amarokpidgin. This should fix it:
* switch off amarokpidgin
* delete the media status
* make sure pidgin is connected
* start amarokpidgin

I have exactly the same problem with any version of the pidgin and with all of the protocols I use (ICQ, MSN, Yahoo, Jabber, GMail...)

Just to confirm that I am having this problem as well. I believe it is a problem with Pidgin, because my contacts cant see manually set status's either.

Pidgin with debugging output on suggests that AmarokPidgin is working.

I need to do more debugging though. Hopefully this will be cleared up soon.

After experimenting allot, I've found that this script has a lot of flaws. keegancsmith, please don't find yourself offended, I'm trying to be as much objective as I can. Simply, this script needs more to be worked on.

It works by default. But if I delete "media" in pidgin it wont work anymore, no matter how many times I restart the script.
So I guess I could say this script needs more functionality.

I installed script via Amarok script manager. When i run the scipt from script manager status changes currectly but isnt reflected on my orkut profile nor its visible to my friend

I already tried many other plugins for "Now listening" to work.but i guess they are all outdated.

I hope you sort out this issue soon. will keep watching. GL

You need to install the python dbus bindings. This is distribution specific.

Not sure what could be wrong. Maybe ask help in an irc channel or mailing list for your distro.

Can you please tell me what you did for this to happen?

For the moment just switch amarokpidgin off and reset the nicks, then switch amarokpidgin back on.

I installed via Amarok script manager, and the first time I could run and configure it.

First time I put it in "Nick" but my friends could not see it, so I changed to "Stauts", Selected the status and my friends could still not see anything, but I can still see my name as the last thing I played when it was configurated as "Nick"

Stopping, uninstalling, re-installing en running again changes nothing, still the same Nick with the last that I played in Amarok.
Changed my account (local alias) in Pidgin and all is well again.

Also I can't configure the script anymore, nothing happens when I push the button.

I uninstalled again and gonna fidle about a little with this.

(pidgin 2.4.1 - kubuntu Hardy - amarok 1.4.9.1)

I have the same problem, I can see the song I'm playing as my nick in conversations, but none of my buddies see it.
Any way of getting it working?

If the pidgin's nick changes, but your friends dont see it, this could be a problem with pidgin or the servers.

What protocol are you having this problem with? (MSN or xmpp or AIM, etc)

It's msn that I have this problem with... The only place where I see the nick has changed is in conversations when I type something... If I go to Accounts»Choose a account»set friendly name I only see my old nick. I have added myself on my contact list and on my contact list I only see my old unchanged nick.

Ok, that is probably a problem with how old the MSN code is in Pidgin. I use http://code.google.com/p/msn-pecan/ to connect to MSN. Try it out, and see if it fixes the problem

just saw your reply now... I did set up pidgin 2.5 since I understand it does the same that msn-pecan did for a older version of pidgin... But I can't see it's working, only the local alias changes, but not the status message or the nick...

Any idea?

I haven't tried 2.5 yet. But under 2.4 using msn-pecan ( http://code.google.com/p/msn-pecan/ ) status updates work for me.

 Language specific signs

 by lupinek on: Jun 27 2008

Score 50%

If You have problem with some non-english letters You need to add one and edit one line in ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/AmarokPidgin/AmarokPidgin.py

As a second line in this file add
# -*- coding: utf-8 -*-

and edit line 244 adding there Your language charset. For polish (me):
encodings = ['utf8', 'iso-8859-2']
and iso-8859-2 is charset for my language. By default there is iso-8859-1.

Article by me (in polish):
