If your problem is that gaim wont configure/compile then just install the dbus-devel rpm to get gaim compiling properly.

Also, you can probably find a newer gaim in an rpm repo somewhere. Check this link: http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=gaim&submit=Search+...&system=&arch=

 Idea

There is a Gaim plugin called Buddy Image Slide Show that changes your buddy image. I haven't tried it yet, but it seems like something to add that changes your buddy icon to the album cover of what you are listening to in amarok. Of course, I have no idea how hard this would be to implement, but it sounds like it could be cool.

Thanks for the link. I got started on implementing this feature a while ago. Its currently working with a lot of bugs, so I will check out the other package for ideas on how to iron the bugs out.

I have the basic workings of code that does this in Perl, but for some reason when I call the PurpleAccountSetBuddyIconPath, it doesn't update Pidgin unless I restart Pidgin.

I really like this script, but it isn't compatible with Pidgin 2.0.0-Beta7.

Yes. I need to install pidgin to see what to change. Fortunetly it should be trivial to change.

Hi!

Happy to report that I got the script working with pidgin 2.0 (the freshly out final release). Because I'm not a programmer, I'll just list here the changes I made.

Open for editing the file ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/AmarokGaim/AmarokGaim.py

and make the following changes:
1. the rows

obj = bus.get_object("net.sf.gaim.GaimService", "/net/sf/gaim/GaimObject")
gaim = dbus.Interface(obj, "net.sf.gaim.GaimInterface")

changed to

obj = bus.get_object("im.pidgin.purple.PurpleService", "/im/pidgin/purple/PurpleObject")
purple = dbus.Interface(obj, "im.pidgin.PurpleInterface")

2. next, run a search-and-replace and replace every instance of the word Gaim with Purple and every instance of gaim with purple. Case sensitive and not "whole words only".

And that's it! it works. :)

 question/request =)

I'm not a programmer, hence posting this here... Is it possible for this script to be active only if the particular status message is active?

What I mean. My AmarokGaim status message is now called "Amarok" vs the default "Media". Would it be possible for this script to update the Gaim status message only if "Amarok" was the active status message, and not any other? So, if if I have "Amarok" up, it's active, but when when I have "Default" or something. If so, is it difficult to achieve or could someone help me achieve this effect?

Thanks in advance. =)

Hey.
It should be pretty trivial to implement, and it sounds like a good idea. I am gonna finally start on the pidgin convert tonight, so you will see the pidgin stuff tonight or tomorrow, and maybe even your request.

It seems that AOL has disabled the ability to set available status messages on their servers so AmarokGaim/Pidgin does not currently function.

I changed line 146 from

self.status = self.purple.PurpleSavedstatusNew(status_name, status_type);

to

self.status = self.purple.PurpleSavedstatusNew(status_name, 5);

to ensure that the message is always displayed as an away message

i meant to say does not currently function for AIM accounts, it seems to work for all other services that support available status messages.
