At the moment it only makes a custom status message. Unfortunetly MSN does not support that at the moment. I'll make it possible too change the nick in the next version.

I discovered this script today when i was looking for a solution to display amarok song information in msn on gaim. Even though it is not supported yet i was glad to see it is in the works.

I did a little research and according to the issue tracker at https://sourceforge.net/search/?group_id=235&words=%22personal+message%22+msn&type_of_search=artifact&words=%22personal+message%22&Search=Search
they are working on supporting personal messages for msn in gaim, though it seems it could take a while. Until then i would be perfectly happy with the now playing info integrated in my nickname.

ps. When I was using gaim 2.0 beta 3 on from the standard ubuntu edgy repository the script did not work, after adding the debuntu.org repository and upgrading to 2.0 beta 5 from it my song info is showing in gaim.

What version of amarok and python are you using?

The only reason I can think of this happening is if amarok is constantly writing message too amarokgaim, for some reason you're python isn't in blocking mode when reading the amarok output, or a problem in an external library.

Could you email me, and then I can send you a file too debug this problem.

 broken

I love this script, however, it is broken in beta6. error output:

The script 'AmarokGaim' exited with error code: 1

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "/home/user/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts/AmarokGaim/AmarokGaim.py", line 5, in ?
import dbus
ImportError: No module named dbus

anyway to correct this?

also, one bug I noticed when it was running was when the music changed tracks while I was idle I would be brought back as available...even though I was not.

It works in beta6 for me. It seems that you have installed beta6 without dbus support. If you compiled it yourself remember the dbus flag.

Also the bug you mentioned has been fixed and will be released in the new version.

If you have the dcop client, you should have the program 'dcop' installed. Just try running it on through the console.

If AmarokGaim bombs out you probably don't have dbus or dbus-python. Google around for solutions.

mmm, i have dcop installed and when i run it, it shows some apps (amarok, ktorrent and a few others)... I'm running gnome if that makes any difference.

I have python-dbus 0.71-3 and dbus 1.0.2.
I have gaim 2.0.0beta5, which I installed with "apt-get install gaim", so I dont know if it has dbus support.
I can run the AmarokGaim script: it doesnt give any errors, but in gaim it doesnt show the songs :(
It just says: Media, nothing else. Help!

This script calls kdialog through getoutput for displaying dialogs. The package which contains kdialog (part of KDE) isn't installed by default when using GNOME.

So what most likely happened is that you tried to configure the script, which (due to missing kdialog) wrote an "empty" configuration file to ~/.kde/share/apps/amarok/scripts-data. Remove this configuration file (AmarokGaim.ini) and it should work like a charm.

If you wish to use the dialogs to configure this script, use Synaptic or 'apt-get install kdebase-bin' to install kdialog.
