Description:

Something that it would make much happy people with linux/KDE would be the possibility to deal with applicatory as if was archives. It wants to install a applicatory one? It copies for the folder of applications. It wants to erase? Delete of there, simply. It wants to remove without erasing? It moves for some folder.

Algo que faria muita gente feliz com o linux / KDE seria a possibilidade lidarmos com aplicativos como se fosse arquivos. Quer instalar um aplicativo? Copie para a pasta de aplicativos. Quer apagar? Delete de lá, simplesmente. Quer desinstalar sem apagar? Mova para alguma pasta. Isso envolveria a forma de compilar o aplicativo.

yeah, this has been discussed on several places. would be great, but technically, it has some problems. what you describe is more or less already available as 'klik' [1]. it has some advantages, one of them is making it harder to find software (after all, apt-get and the likes give you 15.000 pieces of software, easy to install. when appfiles are used, you need to find and download and install them yourselves - a lot more work). another problem is you can't centrally control (install, upgrade, patch) the software on a computer, which leads to security and management problems.

it is simply the choice between a centralized and a decentralized software management. appfolders are decentralized, apt-get is centralized, and MS windows has a worst-of-both-options situation ;-)

And is it too difficult to have both centralized and non-cemtralized options?
Maybe you can have an apt-like system that searchs over your actions and detects when you 'install' or 'drag' an aplication so you can actually update and uninstall the centralized way, that is much better. So you can have the best of both worlds ;)

PD: I know its not a kde matter but would be a good idea for linux itself

In otherwords you want KDE to be a package manager/distro. This is *not* KDE's job nor should it ever be IMO.

You should check out Gobolinux (http://www.gobolinux.org/), although it does not do exactly this, but instead stores apps in /Programs/// -like directories. The idea is that filesystem is the package manager.

If I understand what your proposing this is very simular to the ROX filesystem. The comment about this not being something KDE should take on is IMHO a little off the mark, as KDE adds more and more functionality to not only the desktop but in web browsing, office apps, and other areas I think its important it proactivly finds ways to make storing, retrieving, and installing applications and files easier and consistant.

software installations is managed by the distro with the package manager. All kde can do about is to make something like kio-packagemanager, and with this try to simulate application folders (something like repositories:// and applications://):
Drag&dropping $PACKAGE from repositories:// to applications:// internally runs "apt-get install $PACKAGE", and from applications:// to trash:// runs "apt-get remove $PACKAGE".

The problem i see is some packages contains applications, some others don't, so maybe packages must be tagged like "application", "system component", "library" or "other".
