KDE Official Distro

KDE4 Brainstorm

Score 27%
Downloads:  31
Submitted:  Jul 13 2006

Description:

Ok, What If there was an offshoot of the KDE project that worked to make an Official KDE Distro?

I think this would be a good idea because the entire distro would be so tightly integrated with KDE that it would run better than other less integrated distos

Sounds like a good idea to me, I want to know what you guys think.

PS. We could call it \\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"KOS, The K Operating System\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\"

Ark certainly tries to be such a distro :) (Personally find that its doing a brilliant job at it, especially with the amount of manpower it has :) )

I think it is a good idea. You could get a nice looking installation process, with bootsplash, etc... It could be great for the begginers...

But I think there are a lot of distros already dedicated to kde, like kubuntu or even opensuse (despite the last release that has gnome too). Even if you want something really optimize and build for kde use Gentoo... I'm using it right know and believe me, it is damn fast, and pretty lightweight in ram (in Debian Sarge KDE used to consume two times the ram it consumes here in gentoo).

And doing this will consume a LOOOTTT of human hours in a not usefull target. I think KDE developers have already a LOT of work to cope with just with kde! So to add another thing to develop, mantain, etc would be totally wrong, IMHO!
