Description:

dwerg is a GTK theme named after, well. Myself. It was inspired by a trillian skin made by Everaldo, he was so kind to let me use the design.

The code of the engine was based on the Cleanice for GTK 2.0, currently it's a complete rewrite. So you've guessed it, this is a GTK 2 skin.

Changelog:

6 jan 2005 Manfred Stienstra
* Complete rewrite, cleaner code
* Changed checkbox and radio button
* Fixed badly visible text (again)
* Fixed tooltip bug

14 apr 2004 Manfred Stienstra
* Optimizations (threw away some strange clipping code left over from the initial source tree)
* Fixed the white text after focus change bug

7 apr 2003 Manfred Stienstra
* Optimizations (changed some drawing code to make it faster)
* Fixed an install bug

6 dec 2002 Manfred Stienstra
* Made the lines of the tabs meet at the right place
* Created a draw focus, for a better looking focus
* Some code cleaning
* Fixed checkbox edge problem and radio button color

1 dec 2002 Manfred Stienstra

* Updated some stuff to get the ToolBar to be a little lighter.
* Selected items in trees and lists are readable now.
* Buttons are a bit more like buttons

30 nov 2002 Manfred Stienstra

* First release, programmed in a day. So probably with some bugs.

I could understand most GTK stuff (like Geramik), 'coz they were things to make Gnome apps look more like KDE apps. This posting just seems for Gnome users. Even the screenshot is from Gnome. Correct me if I'm wrong here...

A lot of people fell in love with the window decorations in the screenshot from the crystal icons. This GTK theme was made to look like that. If someone creates a KDE theme to match it, you could have a consistant desktop.

I didn't see that... But if it's like that, I guess it's KDE related and you can forget I said anything. :)

I agree that this site should be primarily about KDE, so I'm glad there are people making sure it stays that way. No hard feelings.

...I think that using KDE doesn't prevent you from using gtk apps too (personally I use sylpheed, pan and gftp daily but I'm not willing to use gnome2), so for me It's good to see gtk themes here.Also I cannot decide myself between a gorgeous Keramik and a Flat (GTK) style so I MUST use them both :-D

For dwerg: very neat work!

I'm going to create a whole desktop with this theme so I guess there will be a 1.2 version along the line.

IMHO, the large number of GTK+ themes on this site only points out the fact that QT is WAAAY too hard to theme for most users. Any chance of a "pixmap engine" for QT that will allow non-programmers to generate themes?

An ever bigger problem is that I can't even find documentation on how to write widget style, so even programmers can't create a theme for KDE.

 QStyle docs

Easy:
http://doc.trolltech.com/3.1/qstyle.html
And
http://developer.kde.org/documentation/library/3.0-api/classref/kdefx/KStyle.html

Nonetheless, it's *really* hard. Much harder than Qt 2.x

 Hard?

Programming any KDE/Qt stuff is soo easy as there loads of good docs / examples. Why not just take an existing KDE/Qt style and modify it to be more what you like? This is what I did for QtCurve - I hated R*dHat's abonible KDE style, so I enhanced it. Creating a sensible gtk theme is *much* harder - even simple pixmap themes (most of these are the same - just different pixamps). I found it really difficult/impossible to find *any* decent gtk and gtkrc documentation.

You've done a nice work making Everaldo's idea real. This style rules! Why don't you port it to QT too? it would be wonderful to have KDE looking so nice!

Just a question... what are the fonts you are using in the screenshots? i really like them and how they look with the style.
Please, can you send them to me? My email address is syrius84@lycos.it

Thanx a lot!!

The font is verdana, it's one of the fonts from the standard microsoft font pack. You can find it on sourceforge.net.

I'm currently looking at the documentation of writing my own widget style for QT/KDE, but I'm having some problems with automake so I can't compile anything yet :(
