Description:

Cpuchecker is a simple kicker applet that allows users to display their current CPU speed. At this moment only the speed of the first cpu will be displayed.

Also it is possible to change the current freqency governor using the menu that pops up after clicking on the applet.

cpufrequtils has to be installed to use this applet.

Why cpufrequtils must be installed? Check out /proc/cpuinfo :)

This way the CPU speed can be changed using an userspace program.

While it would be possible to look at the way the kernel developers did it and just copy it, changes to the kernel might make this software unusable and I hope that using this way this will not be the case.

The CPU speed cannot be changed directly at the moment though, but you can change the CPU governor.

If I have to go to some other site to download a neccesary thing-a-ma-jig, then NO! Do what I did with LineDaemon: Upload the other thingys first, then link them on this site as content files.

cpufrequtils should ship with any recent distro. Debian unstable has it ;)

Only linux supports /proc/cpufreq. And this is deprecated iirc.
