Description:

A virtual keyboard for KDE.
This keyboard should look like a real one in your country.
Comments and suggestions are very appreciated :)
Please say me what keyboard layout you use so I can test and fix ;p
EDIT :
As my beloved tabletPC is now broken and my RL take me too much time, I won't maintain this anymore. So this is looking for a new maintainer

Changelog:

v0.3 :
- icon tray
- if you click on the top of the buttons letters will be capitalized
- change the "win key" face to the K logo as requested
- fix some buttons
- more character lookup
- initial internationalisation

 looks great :)

Bonjour!

great, I'm looking forward to finally replace good ol' xvkbd with a native KDE app :)

Is there any issue tracker for klavier where I can file bug reports and feature requests?

I'd like to propose some usability improvements:

  • first of all, could you please replace the icon on the "windows keys" with a penguin icon, or alternatively with the KDE icon? The windows sign really distracts me ;)

  • in xvkbd I can get uppercase letters by stroking upwards out of the key, without needing to tap the shift key. This or a similar feature is for me a killer feature for an onscreen keyboard. I don't want to have to tap 2 different keys, just to get 1 uppercase letter. Please consider implementing something like this.

Merci beaucoup!

regards, Daniel

 Just one thing...

Don't you think a little Tux or a "geared K" would look better on a virtual keyboard than the crossed flag?

That's the kind of little detail that could make you gain more users, as well as useful features.

 Suggestions

 by ricce on: May 18 2006

A lot of characters are not looked up, some examples...

exclamdown -> ¡ (not i, but a up-side-down !)
EuroSign -> €
yen -> ¥
Odiaeresis -> Ö
odiaeresis -> ö
Adiaeresis -> Ä
adiaeresis -> ä
Aring -> Å
aring -> å
plusminus -> ±
onehalf -> ½
acute -> ´ (not ')
ae -> æ
dead_cedilla -> ¸ (not ,)

Some other keynames are confusing, some suggestions:
Echap -> Esc
Supp -> del

And some errors:
My "Print Screen/Sys Rq" is blank,

"Scroll lock" is named "Arret" -- but it isn't working anyway.

For some reason have ¨ disappeared form the "¨/^/~" (normal/shift/alt-gr) key.

';' have become ','
',' have become '-'
'¶' have become '§'
'insert' have become '0'
','(numeral keyboard) have become '|'
'£' have disappeared (alt-gr+3)
'.' and '·' have disappeared (only ':' visible on that key)

Some non-capital letters are visible:
'm' (µ on alt-gr)
'ä' (as adiaereses)
'å' (as aring)

alt-gr functions on letter keys are not visible with some exceptions:
'M' ('µ')
'Ä' ('æ' as ae)

 good!

This is a promising application.
I specially see the need for this type of virtual keyboard for Tablet PC users and the like...

I haven't tried it yet... does it have global shortcut configuration? If not, please consider adding that feature.

And perhaps would also be good to have an on screen "virtual key" as part of the keyboard layout, to dismiss it when not needed anymore.

Thanks for listening.

Why not replace the windows key with a gnu, penguin or K logo? ;)

 Cyrillic

Two comments: one, when I switch keyboard layouts (using the keyboard tool in the systray), Klavier does not change to reflect the new key layout.

Secondly, when I switch to the Russian key layout, it displays things like "Cyrillic_YA, Cyrillic_SHA", etc., rather than the actual letters.
