Description:

Icon set for KDE 3.0 and KDE 3.1
Complete iconset with around 600 original icons. It can be used as individual icons for X desktops, or as a complete iconset for KDE 3.0-3.1 or above (new KDE features will not be iconized at this moment).
Please, read the 'readme' text file for more info.
This iconset is under LGPL. Read the 'lesser.txt' text file about the license.
Enjoy it!
Many thanks to es.kde.org to host the icons; muchas gracias people :D
Carlitus

Changelog:

1.00
Finally available as a direct download.
-Added icons for these daily use apps: Kget, Kmail, Ark, K3b
-An important change: now it's under LGPL; previously was under GPL, and changed because the LPGL it's more permissive (requested by some KDE dev, and suggested by some Gnome users too).

This iconset was stored in a external server. At this date, that server don't allow external links to their files, so this iconset can't be downloaded! I can pay for a extensive-downloaded file like this iconset, so i will appreciate any help (a server to store my files freely -or not-). Thanks for the support.

11-august-2003
Only fixed a broken download link

0.95
-Added the 128x128 size. Not all icons are in this size.
-Added KDE 3.1 icons, such tab icons, kget, messagebox, ...
-Added the throbber.
-Fixed important icons, previously released but missing on last update (such filesave, www)
-Small fixes.
-The Readme text file is more complete. Now have howto's, links to other Noia icons/skins and the complete iconlist.

0.90
Refining and polishing of lots of icons, specially for actions and apps.
Now the Noia icons for KDE is under GPL license.

0.50
Added 142 new icons.
No more icons will be added (except if there's any important KDE missing icon).
Other icons will be released apart.
The next release will be the Release Candidate, and it will contain some icons redesigned and the small icons fixed.
Now it's time to say wich are the bad designed icons. Send me a e-mail or post a comment.
Thanks

Carlitus,

I would like to welcome you to Linux. I have been watching you, and I love your talented and original work.
In this GNU (new) world, you can be the designer of new desktops, not just a mod, but the default look.
Crystal started as a Conectiva linux theme, but now it is growing with KDE.
Use Linux, use KDE, Gimp, KOffice, Open Office, they are wonderfull programs! Hopefully Karbon 14 will be an option in the future for SVG (hint, hint ;).
Take a little bit of time to understand Linux. You will love it.
And keep the good work! I hope to see it in millions of desktops!

Welcome!

I think that i need to feel comfortable to use another OS.
I not completelly 'switched' to Linux, but actually it is more friendly than past times. For this reason i tried to make a iconset for KDE.
I'm a designer and a hobbyist icon designer, and i'm glad when my icons are enjoyed.
About Linux, the wellcome comments, here and via e-mail are very friendly. Not only the kind 'nice icons'. I agree (maybe more than good comments) the constructive comments: 'these icons are missing' or 'configuration file are incomplete'... this helps me to make better jobs. On windows customization world there's a lot of friendly people, but i find more 'answers' on Linux (more answers on Linux just in one day than WIndows in one month).
I have no panic to Linux. If i not used intensively before is due to uncomplete installs. This aspect has changed ;)
The highest inconvenient (for me) to use principally Linux, is the low average on graphics manipulation programs. Yes, i not used a lot the Gimp, i know. Afortunatelly, there's a lot of good 'vector' programs (OpenOffice too!), and KDE is a great chance for me to create vectorial icons!

Thanks for your wellcome message!

 Crystal and Noia

I think the design is great, it certainly can rival Crystal. I have a few comments I´d like to add:

==> The overall colors are "pale". Most icons are "pale" blue. The home icon, for example, would look much better, IMHO, with a red roof. When I open Konqueror, my toolbar is pale blue, all my icons are pale blue, if you use detailed view this is far more noticeable. It seems too "monochordic". I'd be very grateful to see more contrast.

==> The home icon is the best one(I don't like the crystal "blue house").

==> XMMS icon has nothing to do with a media player.

==> There's no need for "competition" with crystal. In fact, I believe there are crystal features that would go very well with this iconset. Crystal , IMHO, is named so because it is "lighted" and is "very 3D". So, it really looks like a crystal, with that "glass-look". I think noia would be much better with that "glass-look", maintaning the icon design. It would be something like "crystalnoia"...

==> Missing icons (in a first view..):

- Netscape;
- Opera;
- Kcontrol;
- Kdevelop;
- Lopster (nobody has made one so far...);

==> Mozilla icon seems "childish"...

Don't get me wrong, I was using Crystal and migrated to Noia yesterday. These - together with the "stolen" Mac OS X - are the best, IMHO. I'd like to have "the best of 3 worlds" in one icon set.

==> This is iconset is too large!!!11MB!!

Hope these comments might help,

Felipe.

 Crystal and Noia

First, and most important:
I DON'T WISH TO RIVALIZE with Crystal icons! Crystal are the KDE 3.1 deffault icons and a great (and intensive) job.
Simply: Everaldo created their own prefered icons, and i created my own prefered icons. Of coure, in some aspects they are similar, and some of the icons can be used in booth sets. I respect a lot the Everaldo's job and i dislike the messages 'this is best than...'
My icons are different, and the diversity are good. Simply enjoy the icons, the Crystal, the OSX like, my icons or others ;)

Second, and maybe more important: thanks for your comments, they are very constructive!
-About the 'pale' or 'comic aspect' (surelly there's a lot of people with this tought): i make the icons with the style that i like. Don't worry, other 3 icon variations (more contrasted are on the way).
-Have you reason: the xmms icon are bad designed. This and others i see bad designed will be redesigned. Sorry for the Mozzilla icon, but i created this icon very different to others (i always seen the same Mozilla design).
DON'T HESITATE if there's to comunicate a bad designed icon!
-Thanks for the missing icons! Some of them (Netscape, Opera) are not released just for the reason you are commented: the download is very high!
-Maybe i will release the 128x128 sizes a part (or with a higher version). I don't like the big downloads, but this is due to the big of icons to make a complete set for KDE!

These are *exactly* the kind of icons I've been wanting for a long time (and have absolutely no skill myself to creat! ;)

Thanks for taking the time to make my desktop a lot more appealing to the eyes -- I love the slightly cartoonish look and the colors are great.

Good job! I can't wait to get ahold of the rest when you are able to do so.

i have to say that you've out done your self. i've been a fan of your work ever since you first released the Noia set for windows. but i must say that you've gone all out with this. keep up the excellent work. i'll be constantly checking back for updates.
