Description:

Icon set for KDE 3.0 and KDE 3.1
Complete iconset with around 600 original icons. It can be used as individual icons for X desktops, or as a complete iconset for KDE 3.0-3.1 or above (new KDE features will not be iconized at this moment).
Please, read the 'readme' text file for more info.
This iconset is under LGPL. Read the 'lesser.txt' text file about the license.
Enjoy it!
Many thanks to es.kde.org to host the icons; muchas gracias people :D
Carlitus

Changelog:

1.00
Finally available as a direct download.
-Added icons for these daily use apps: Kget, Kmail, Ark, K3b
-An important change: now it's under LGPL; previously was under GPL, and changed because the LPGL it's more permissive (requested by some KDE dev, and suggested by some Gnome users too).

This iconset was stored in a external server. At this date, that server don't allow external links to their files, so this iconset can't be downloaded! I can pay for a extensive-downloaded file like this iconset, so i will appreciate any help (a server to store my files freely -or not-). Thanks for the support.

11-august-2003
Only fixed a broken download link

0.95
-Added the 128x128 size. Not all icons are in this size.
-Added KDE 3.1 icons, such tab icons, kget, messagebox, ...
-Added the throbber.
-Fixed important icons, previously released but missing on last update (such filesave, www)
-Small fixes.
-The Readme text file is more complete. Now have howto's, links to other Noia icons/skins and the complete iconlist.

0.90
Refining and polishing of lots of icons, specially for actions and apps.
Now the Noia icons for KDE is under GPL license.

0.50
Added 142 new icons.
No more icons will be added (except if there's any important KDE missing icon).
Other icons will be released apart.
The next release will be the Release Candidate, and it will contain some icons redesigned and the small icons fixed.
Now it's time to say wich are the bad designed icons. Send me a e-mail or post a comment.
Thanks

 really really...

great! I only have minimal critics: I don't really like the k-menu icon, it reminds me too much of the crystal icon set, and this I had for 3 months... further I would really like a new Mozilla icon (maybe like the Netscape icon, thats really good), and further xmms icon is not that much my style...

I would die to have Noia warm and maybe even Noia natural on KDE also, I really love it :-)

Keep on the good work,
greetings,
Mona

yeah, i have to agree: the xmms icon isn't my favorite, either.

but DANG: 0.5 is fabulous. i still have to use some duplicates to cover all my apps, but you say you'll release an "extended apps" set, so i really look forward to it.

thanks for the icons!

oh! one thing i just noticed: the "shuffle" button on noatun is just a generic K logo. i assume you didn't intend that, and that you would want a special icon for that, yes? hope so.

thanks!

You've been able to make a lot of new icons in such a short time! They look great!!!

However, I agree with the critics, some of these icons use the same shade of blue and makes things look a little boring and reperitive. I think you should forget about your plans on releasing different variations, there are still tons of icosn to be done (look at the icons included in slick, try to make icons for everythignn that author did) for example something to replace the spinnink flower in Konqueror and a TV card icon, and so many more.

In my opinion you should focus on one set with all the best and most common suggestions you get. This way, you won't need to make different sets, everyoen will already love the first one! You should add different colors to your official set too, you don't have to make everything blue.

Conclusion:

Focus on one set with a combination of the best looking colors and icons for everything in KDE.

 Colors

Again the colors comments!
Well, i'm a designer, and i will not make simple colour variations!!
When i refer to 'variations' i refer to new concepts.
Examples:
-On any variation i change the designs for folders.
-I will not use exclusively 'blue' or 'yellow' colors.
-I will change the CONCEPT: for the warm icons, it have designs that will have 'warm feels', for the Natural icons i use foliage instead folders and strawberries for internet!! For the Bogart version i tried to make feel as 'old BW cinema'. Maybe i can make the icon sets using very different colors, but... what happens for the Bogart version? If this set (the Noia for KDE) are too blue, i will not thing wath can happens for the Bogart version (entirelly in grey tones)!

Ok, maybe the KDE comunity prefers only one design with more variated colors. There's a lot of persons that comented the 'excessive' using of blue tones.
I will create the new icons with different tones. But there's some issues that will happens:
-Don't say that this icon set it's too many colorist, and reminds you the WIndowsXP style!!
-Don't say that this is a copy of any other iconset!
-I will make the other variations, because they have different designs (i never wiwh to make variations only changing the colors, i did this and i don't like the results). I will not release the Bogart version!!! Sorry for the people that likes the BW designs.

Finally: i like the diversity, the Noia icons are intended to have alternatives with the same designing concepts, not to be a definitive icon set. The Noia icons are created initially for WIndows, and it have only 100 icons. This version (the KDE) it's not really a version, it have more than 400 icons, so it is 75% newly, and i need intensive work to make this. If more than 50% persons prefers different colors on Konkeror buttons, i will make this changes. Thanks

 Don't be angry...

about some poor fools who have never known, what art is! Your icons are good as they are. What I could imagine was meant with the colors: before you came, we didn't have many icon sets, maybe 2 or 3 really good. All of them were blueish, so one could think, all KDE icons are blue (like Mac icons were). So I can understand people want a change (as I also do). As I have written above some days ago, I would really die to see Noia warm and Noia natural on KDE. But this is not a must. Hell, its only a heart wish ;-)

Dear Carlitus, your art is really excellent. But please don't make the mistake to compare KDE and Windows users. They are not really the same ;-)

Thank you for all the time you invested in your work. You know, that you have a new fan community here :-)

Greetings,
Mona

no problem.

never (never) and never i will compare KDE and Windows users. They can be compared, as can be compared Mac to Windows or Mac to Linux users. Really, i don't like to make a 'copy' of winxp icons.

Thanks :)

This is just one great icon theme. One missing icon I noticed is the KDevelop icon. Kdevelop is an important application of the KDE desktop. Thanks

These are one of the BEST iCONS i have seen in a long while. however Using RH8 with KDE 3 i have run into something strange.
Whenever i go into Konquerer file manager the Blue folders look normal as they should but then when my mouse rollsover the Icons change to the 'open folder' icon from the iKONS theme included in KDE3. Can Someone Help Me???

Other than That These truly are Super Icons. Keep up the good work

 Design comments

You said: "Now it's time to say wich are the bad designed icons."

Well, most of them are good or excellent! The only ones I struggle a bit to figure out are KMail's reply, reply all and forward icons. What are the grey shapes in the background? Envelopes? The arrows on them are a little hard to see as well, the arrow design looks _very_ good in Konqueror, but at this size maybe a more simple design would be better?

Thanks for bringing Noia to KDE.

 missing kIcons

by Carlitus on: Nov 17 2002

Score 50%

Ok.
There's some Kapps missing.
Icons for applications will be released with a downloadable apart (phoenix, etc.).
But i like to make icons for all KDE applications
You commented me the KDevelop, and it will be created. Let me know if there's any other K app missing icon.
Thanks
