Description:

A multi-client Notification Daemon.

UPDATE @ 19/06/2006
-------------------
Sorry! There haven't been many updates! My main laptop hd crashed and I lost alot of data (I do have a backup with most important data though)

Crosslink is probably going to work together with the Galago project. We are going to contact Galago soon.
Check here for more information: http://www.galago-project.org/news/index.php

UPDATE @ 30/04/2006

UPDATE @ 30/04/2006
-------------------
Thanks to Tony Wolf (dragon-fire) this project might become a reality! Read more in the changelog.

UPDATE @ 25/03/2006

CLICK ON THE LINK "Enhanced Knotify HTML Document" TO GET MORE INFORMATION!
I created this document to describe my thoughts better.

Message to all: Thanks for all the comments!
- - - - - - - -
NOTE: This can be seen as an extension to Knotify, because it already exists in some way, but Knotify isn't very good :)
- - - - - - - -

Example: popups from Kopete are pretty ugly :)
and popups from other applications don't look like it.
They could also overlap eachother and yadi-yadi-yadi

I suggest a notification program where all the "popups"
(notifications) have the same look and animation,
ofcourse the look/animation/sound can be adjusted PER application.

In CAES control module (works through config files) you would be able to set what the default look is,
and an edited look/animation/sound per application/action you wish to use with CAES.

This can be done for alot of applications. The process will be made as easy as possible for developers.

Also, this is something that should be integrated together with [opens new tab *god thank for tabs*] this idea: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=33673
(Tasks Info in Less Windows)

Give your thoughts!

Changelog:

#### 01/05/2006 ####
Project renamed to: Cross Application Event Server (CAES)
We have a wiki on line for new ideas and development: http://caes.os-forge.net/wiki/

#### 30/04/2006 ####
There haven't been many updates, I know!
But there is big news.
We are going to try to make this project reality!

Independent of KDE or any desktop,
we are going to create a server called CAES (Cross Application Event Server or maybe Cross Application Event System to refer to the whole system).

This server will work together with clients to show the popups. We are going to make it very easy for developers to integrate CAES with their application.

We're still brainstorming.
But hopefully a website will be up soon enough.

Oh, the guy that's going to do most of the programming: Tony Wolf (dragon-fire)

 dbus

I don't want be a wet blanket, but this sounds a lot like dbus (which is completely replacing DCOP in KDE4 AFAIK).

A description of dbus can be found here.

In short:

"""
D-BUS is a message bus system, a simple way for applications to talk to one another.

D-BUS supplies both a system daemon (for events such as "new hardware device added" or "printer queue changed") and a per-user-login-session daemon (for general IPC needs among user applications). Also, the message bus is built on top of a general one-to-one message passing framework, which can be used by any two apps to communicate directly (without going through the message bus daemon). Currently the communicating applications are on one computer, but TCP/IP option is available and remote support planned.

Yes. You should've read the update. We became well aware of the Galago project.

Hy, I would love to see something like this in KDE4, if it is somehow standard, e.g. basically integrated in KDE4. Maybe you could also use DCOP as underlying message protocol.

Client Wise I find this Idea Amazing: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=42381

the back end looks good, but i don't think it should be displayed in windowsXP-like balloons.
