Description:

Media Tag Tools is as the name suggests a collection of tools to help you tag your audio files, rename them using the data present in their tags and/or categorise the files in folders automatically.

New: Debian package kindly provided by Gregory Potamianos
New: Slackware package thanks to Thomas Merkel
New: Mandriva package thanks to Mladen Pejaković
New: Gentoo ebuild update thanks to Temet

Changelog:

* Mtt can now take a dir as argument and add the media files for editing

* Make /bin/sh the default shell for the scripts

because of too many opened files )

necessary.

It's a tag renamer supporting various file formats, batch editing and you'll add for a next release musicbrainz.org support?

Promising!! Could I suggest to change Media Tag Tools to a KDEish name??

I'm glad you like Media Tag Tools! :-) I named the program similar to the open source program for windows (yes there do exist such software too) that was the inspiration for this project to begin: Mp3 Tag Tools. Also it's just a qt application so I don't think it deserves the letter K in its name yet. However, I'm open to suggestions for a new name, as in the following versions of the program, the gui layout and functionality will change a lot :-)

I personally think that adding 'k' to every KDE application is really childish. It's something OS X developer's do, and it would get better without it.
For me program's name could explain its functionality. For that reason the name you chose is great.

Looking forward to see 'Mail' instead of 'kMail', 'IM' instead of 'Kopete' and so on...

I'm sorry but there isn't any documentation ready yet. I can think of something that could have caused to the deletion of your mp3s. In order to be able to use the Rename feature, you have to use a Filename Format. The data that will be used for the format are taken from the tags of the files. Also if you use a format like: "" and forget to add , all files will be renamed (moved) to "AlbumName.mp3" thus overwritting the one the other. :-( I should probably include some more checks in the next version of mtt before running rename on the files. I'm sorry for that small inconvenience.

The GUI reminds me the powerful TagScanner app (Windows freeware). What about a pack for Suse 9.3?

I'm glad you like it! Unfortunately I can't provide you with rpms for suse as I'm running gentoo here. It would be really difficult to build and test such rpms. However building from source is rather easy kai painless. Feel free to ask if you have any questions.
