Description:

Kstreamrecorder is a kommander application for
playing/recording audio and video webstreams. You can listen to
every stream which is supported by your player. With
Kstreamrecorder you are able to record mp3/ogg/rm streams and video streams. The streams will not be encoded.

Needed programs: At least one audio player (Amarok, Xmms)
and a video player (Kaffeine, Xine) for playing the streams.
For recording the streams, you need streamripper (audio),
mplayer for recording Real Media streams and mplayer or mimms
to record video streams.
You need the atd deamon running, for scheduling records.

Usage: When you start Kstreamrecorder the first time, you have to
create a m3u list with your favorite streams. Click on the Options tab and enter your streams. Insert the complete URL and a name for your stream.
Now click on the Main tab and choose your stream. Enjoy.

Comments are welcome :)

Changelog:

Hi,

to start this script, type "kmdr-executor /path/to/the/script/kstreamrecorder.kmdr" in your konsole or in konqueror by clicking on the script.
You have to install kommander on your system, which is part of the package "kdewebdev".
But kstreamrecorder is not working very well, it needs some bug fixes. Unfortunately i don't have much time, but i hope that i can release a new version in october.
Some of the updates are:

- bug fixes
- adding mplayer for recording video streams and real media streams
- more streamripper options
- support m3u files
- time scheduled records (it is planned, but i am having some problems. Maybe this funtion is missing in the next release)
- ...

Any suggestions? Let me know.

Cheers,
Sascha

Hi,

i don't know much about *BSD, but i think that there is no need for a port. Just install kommander on your *BSD and start Kstreamrecorder by clicking on the script.
If i am wrong, please correct me.
Cheers,
Sascha

 Feature requests?

by sascham on: Sep 21 2006

Hello,

I still don't see any comments. So I have to ask, what kind of feature do you want for the next version? It's planned for Jan. 07, due to lack of time.
Things i want to add:

- show "Space left on save device" in the Main Tab
- look for needed tools on startup
- install Kstreamrecorder to KMenu
- switch from the m3u streamlist to a sqlite db, because i want to save more stream information like bitrate, type...
- some pop-ups for error messages
- support for playing and recording last.fm streams (using LastFMProxy)

Do you want something else? Please leave your comment.
Cheers,
Sascha

 Search for titles

Would it be possible to include a list of titles one would like to be recorded.
i.e.
if I have *Metallica* in my list, everything from Metallica would be recorded.

I think flatster.de uses something like this.
Would be a perfect tool, especially with Last FM Streams.

Hi,

and thanks for your comment. But I have to dissapoint you, because it is not possible for me to add this feature.
I looked at flatster and RadioTracker (they offer the same service) and to be honest, I am not 100% sure how they make it, but I think that they record a lot of radio stations. When you search a song, they look at their recorded songs and if they find it, they will stream the song to you, so that you are able to record the track.
The above could be wrong, but I am sure that a single application can't manage that, so i have to say it again: No, i am not able to add this feature.
Cheers,
Sascha

Ok, but it should work with the station I`m listening to, in the moment.

Always when a song from the list will be played it can start recording automatically, or?

Hi,

your ideas are very good, but not easy to implement.
For every audio player i would need a function which tells me, when a new track starts to play. I can't support all audio players out there, so I will concentrate me on amarok (which is my prefered player). Maybe it is possible, but I don't know for sure. I will check it, and post it here, if I find something out.
Cheers,
Sascha

Hi,

this should work with amarok. Maybe i will add this feature, but at the moment it is very busy at work, so it looks like that the new version will be released a month or two later.
Cheers,
Sascha

 about the playlist

by chandraiitk on: Nov 1 2006

Score 50%

as u have mentioned that the user needs to create the playlist by their own. This is possible only if one really knows the direct link. However, if u go to some sites (especially porn sites), they do not provide any link but what they do is they put a button and then javascript hidden behind that button fetches another files and extract the actual link to supply it to players associated with the browser. This is the real problem in saving streams. I think usability of your program will increase much more if you can locate a way to get rid of the aforementioned problem. Otherwise, I dont see any reason to make a playlist and then use this app to download the streaming media rather than just using "$ mplayer -dumpstream -dumpfile ". No doubt that idea behind this app is quite good but at the same time you should improve its usability.
