Description:

This is my suggestion for KDE4.

The panel contains groups of content link for one task (translation).

I think it's very useful to collect various content types (both aggregated in folders and separate items) to one place:
- file (folder with files)
- e-mail (mail folder)
- contact (category)
- note (from knotes and kjots)
- bookmark (folder)
- RSS-feed (group)
- event (category)
- task (group)
- application shortcut (menu groups)
- any other plasmoid/applet

Items should be dragged from appropriate application. Click on item open application (file manager, KMail and so on). "Plus" icon at item right add new item of appropriate type (new mail for mail folder or new file in file folder).

Item should be smart: see highlighting of mail folders with unread messages with number of unread messages.

Any item or group should has possibilites to detach into separate plasmoid.

I hope I don't annoy you with much text and my bad English. :)

If I understand you right, BasKet is - or will become - very near to what you describe. It's available on kde-apps. Do you agree?

No, BasKet collect text, link and so on. I offer to collect content shortcuts (links to file folder, application folder. Second, plasmoid can detach any itself part.

BasKet can link to files and directories - drag one from Konqueror to BasKet and in the menu that pops up choose "Link here". Support for other things, like the RSS feeds you proposed will be added in future versions of BasKet.

How's this useful?

Well, what about KMail folders or KJots book?
Also BasKet work as standalone application (and contains menu, toolbar and so on). I think content panel should be simple. If BasKet can stays as panel (or if exists panel applet which show BasKet list) then will be great.

We can do several panels on desktop.

As I said, the drag'n'drop database is continuously growing and eventually will include these things.

This is a great idea. I'll contact the BasKet maintainer about this. Thanks.

With BasKet you have to be able to show a read-only simplified view of a single basket in a separate window. That ought to be flexible enough.

I contacted him. He has it on his to-do list, but its priority is low.
