Description:

this is not from me, but a cool idea from Gentlemen for gnome. check the mockups. basically he proposes to integrate the menu in the iconbar.

i\'m not sure if it\'ll always work, with big menu- and iconbar\'s it won\'t, but as KDE4 should be cleaner in this regard, and many screens sold today are widescreen, it might work better...

link to the original (download and homepage link to this as well ;-))

 Looks nice...

..but what about the situation when there is not enough horizontal space to host both icons and the menu w/o overlapping? Will the menubar overlap the icons and stay on top? Wouldn't that look ugly?

It is not the size of the hammer that counts. It's how you wield it.

Nah, if you look at the first mockup you see there would also be a 'regular' mode, that could be the auto mode when they would overlap otherwise.

plasma replaces kicker, so there won't be a typical kicker in plasma but applets you can put together in containers. the concept is still very rough.

Opensource is not a matter of price.
It is a different experience of information technologies.

Very clean, very easy to use. Nicely done.

I'm not usually impressed by mockups, but this is *very* nice, and not just the idea.
