Description:

Keuphoria is a KDE3 port of Terence M. Welsh's Euphoria screensaver.

See the site of the author: http://perso.club-internet.fr/hftom/screensavers/index.html

I have just made an RPM for Mandrake 9.0 available on my homepage : http://membres.lycos.fr/billery/

Hope you will enjoy it.

Changelog:

* 10 oct. : I have replaced my rpm by Texstar's one (Mandrake users, you probably know that Texstar is our very very good friend).

 Howto fix kcontrol

 by Kormac on: Oct 7 2002

Score 50%

The maker of the RPM forgot to include a necessary *.desktop file to get it to show up in the Control Centre. This is how you do it:
Open KWrite (or favourite editor) and save the following in /usr/share/applnk-mdk/.hidden/ScreenSavers/
as KEuphoria.desktop

[Desktop Entry]
Name=KEuphoria (GL)
Comment=Euphoria (GL)
Exec=keuphoria
Terminal=false
Icon=kscreensaver.png

Encoding=UTF-8
Actions=Setup;InWindow;Root
[Desktop Action Setup]
Exec=keuphoria -setup
Name=Setup...
Icon=kscreensaver
[Desktop Action InWindow]
Exec=keuphoria -window-id %w
Name=Display in specified window
NoDisplay=true
[Desktop Action Root]
Exec=keuphoria -root
Name=Display in root window
NoDisplay=true
Type=Application
Name[en_GB]= KEuphoria (GL)
Name[en]=KEuphoria (GL)
Name[no]=KEuphoria (GL)
Name[nb]=KEuphoria (GL)
Name[nn]=KEuphoria (GL)
Name[no@nynorsk]=KEuphoria (GL)
Name[no_NY]=KEuphoria (GL)

You may of course also just open one of the *.desktop files in that dir and change the necessary details as I did.

 The file is there

the rpm has the keuphoria.desktop file.
Look at this:

[root@pc root]# rpm -q --list -p 3379-keuphoria-0.1.1-mdk.i586.rpm
/usr/bin/keuphoria
/usr/share/applnk-mdk/.hidden/ScreenSavers/keuphoria.desktop

Still, although files seem to be placed in the right location according to MDK9.0 filesystem layout, kcontrol wouldn't show keuphoria in the screensavers list.

 Did I made a mistake

Please forgive me, if the RPM is not as good as it should be.

Maybe my knowledge of Mdk, specially 9.0 is not deep enough, so I apologize.

 follow-up

 by Kormac on: Oct 7 2002

Score 50%

The fix I outlined above seemed to work for a while, but Mandrake removed the *.desktop file on its own during some maintenance operation. However I see that the ScreenSaver *.destop files are also present in /usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers
So I will try copying it to both locations to see if it 'sticks'. Surely someone should know how to do this properly on Mandrake?

 Thx, got it :)

Kormac is right, the .desktop file has to be placed in
/usr/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers
rather than in
/usr/share/applnk-mdk/.hidden/ScreenSavers

The .prm packager should fix the issue.

Thanks for the great kss!

 Mandrake's menu

 by svgunhouse on: Oct 10 2002

Score 50%

The problem with kcontrol is that Mandrake uses its own menu system. It doesn't matter where you put the *.desktop file, if you update that menu it will be gone. And if you install a package that contains its own menu entry, the menu is updated. Use menudrake to create an appropriate menu entry, and it will work fine.

(Similar problem exists if you install Mosfet's Liquid from source, the kliquid.desktop menu item will disappear if you update the menu.)
