Tango-Original

GNOME Icon

Description:

This is the Tango Project's icon set which I unofficially packaged.
It's a very pleasant set of icons.
Frankly, I got sick of the blue icons, so I repackaged all the latest icons with the original sleek gray icons, with the dark blue tabs. This is a much more chic look than the blue.

In the screenshot:
Metacity: Unity
Gtk: ish-dark

This icon theme requires Tango.
If you don't want to use Tango, remove it from the list of inherited icons in index.theme

Changelog:

2007/03/30:
Updated package with new index.theme file. Removed dependency of gnomecrystalsvg (sorry should have done that earlier!).
The current icon packages that this depends are now 'Tango, gnome'.
I personally insert 'Bluecurve' between Tango and gnome in that list.

--------------------------------
Original-0.6.3:
update

--------------------------------
Original-0.5.1:
0.5.1, same old snappy gray icons.

--------------------------------
Original-0.5.0:
Same as official 0.5.0 set, except with the more unique looking original gray folder icons.

--------------------------------
0.5.0:
Blue folders, more icons.

--------------------------------
0.4.0-2:
Version 0.4.0 of the icons built with version 0.5.0 of the icon-naming-utils, adding appx 30 icons to the set.

I think most of the Tango icons are amazing. The only one I really have a problem with is the computer. Why is the computer's screen squashed on the sides? It looks like a completely different artist did that one. The angles on the folders are a little harsh as well. Not as bad as the computer though.

Every icon, other than that is wonderful!

This icon set reminds standard GNOME icons and is in gnome simple and clear style. This is great contribution to this enviroment.

 Prefer Blue Folders

OK, I have to admit, I really do prefer the blue folders. When my theme uses grey AND my folders are grey, it makes it hard to see things.

In fact, for people like my brother, who has some problems with vision, GNOME is sometimes hard to use BECAUSE of it's often muted colors. He uses the Nuvola icons on his GNOME desktop because he can see them better. They stand out.

Go with the blue. They look nicer.

Or, if GNOME doesn't want to be blue, since KDE has really already claimed that space, we need to come up with a color palette that isn't grey on top of grey.

Take a look at the download links and you'll see that the second link says "(Tango Blue)".
This icon pack is for those who prefer the original gray folders with the dark blue tabs. The new blue colored theme is available through that second link.
The problem is the blue doesn't work well with a lot of theme colors, while the gray works well with a greater variety of theme colors.
Both are nice. Both are available.

Hmm... I can't seem to get it working. I have gnome 2.14 (latest RC).

Gnome theme manager doesn't give me any messages.

Ideas anyone?

I've seen this happen in a few cases, and I'm not sure what causes it.
Strangely, when you copy all the readme/license files from the tango icon set to this one, it should work. Some of those files may be referred to in the font configuration file and that could be the cause.

And how are you trying to install it? Just drag the archive in to the Themes window and that's all. Dou you report any error message? Or You could unpack the archive in to the ~/.icons directory and it has the same efect.

just replace the line
Inherits=gnome,crystalsvg
in index.theme file with this line:
Inherits=gnome

(= delete ",crystalsvg")
and it should works ;-)
