Description:

This is a mockup, obviously. I tried to obtain something a bit more polished than what we can see today on our desktops.
I focused on a new style (if anyone is interested to code it tell me since I can't code) and on the way a filebrowser could work.

(the only artworks not by me in the pic are the icq and jabber icons, I wish to thanks their authors)

 Good design

Although I see a few issues with the design (Menus for Filefinder, KMenu sorting) I think you are on the right track. I hope your contribution is used for KDE 4. A GUI like yours would beat anything in Windows or OS X.

My suggestion would be replacing the configure menu with something like Learn or Understand, something for informational programs. Both my suggestions break the 3 Cs but you get the idea. Maybe move configure into a small button in a seperate section, seeing as it isn't used as much.

Your setup with programs integrating strait into the menus (and choosing how to collaborate with a contact) is excellent, Linux needs a stronger application framework to work with. I hope it ends being mae with extensible modules so any developer can create modules, because personally I don't like Kopete and would rather have aMSN.

that's exactly how I want my desktop to look! Clean and there are some good new ideas like the active- inactive window design and the separation into three major 'task-menus' instead of a big one. Keep up the good work!
In my opinion a release for kde 3.5 could be done by using deKorator and a little bit of hacking ^^
Maybe next days I make a 'proof of concept' out of it.

 GNOME

This looks like a rip off of gnome... kde has its own look and doesn't need 3 menus. If KDE4 adopts this style, itll be the day I stop using it

Nice thought,
but it's a intermediate step, its been kicking around this site for a while now, I've observed the replies and concluded that unless the whole KDE think tank take a radical turn this is just pipe dream.....
