Description:

This is a mockup, obviously. I tried to obtain something a bit more polished than what we can see today on our desktops.
I focused on a new style (if anyone is interested to code it tell me since I can't code) and on the way a filebrowser could work.

(the only artworks not by me in the pic are the icq and jabber icons, I wish to thanks their authors)

On the panel, how come you didnt put kreative, kommunicate, and konfigure...haha, oh wait I know why...

This is weak. A wannabe MS Vista but sadly not nearly as well done. Sad way for KDE to go and I doubt they will go this way...

I am using the "gnome font": Bitstream Vera Sans: www.gnome.org/fonts

THis looks nothing like Vista. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you have never seen a vista screenshot, otherwise you're legally blind. Vista has:

I. A default dark polished metal look - this is exactly the opposite of that.
II. A gigantic sidebar with a stupid looking clock - this does not have any sidebar at all.
III. Grooved Scrollbars - This mockup has ungrooved scrollbars.

It's more like a Hybrid of OSX and KDE in my opinion. It's sad that even when someone develops an original work they are accused of copying.

Of course not every one of these mockups can be implimented, but perhaps developers can take away a few asthetic tips from them. I personally love the simplified menu and window bar - there should be more smooth surfaces in KDE without all of these dividing grooves and lines going every which way. Everything on the screen should surve an asthetic and functional purpose.

I don't agree with parent post. This mock up has nothing to do with vista thing. Everything is different here. I especially like the taskbar design, and how author managed to make active window stand out from inactive ones. While I do not quite like menu driven orientation, the konqueror mockup is very good and has some great tips for developers, and it really looks polished too.

Great job, keep them coming!

I love the style of your mockups and icon set. It looks like a pretty big departure from KDE 3.0 but I think the window style is very pleasing I just can't stop looking at it lol. I'm in love with this mockup and I hope to see some of your idea make it into KDE 4.0!

This is beautiful. I wouldn't mind a theme like that- will you be making one?

This is an excellent mockup. I am a long time KDE user and have always thought it could use a paradigm shift wrt UI presentation. The default giant KDE bar on the bottom is very cumbersome and wasteful of realestate. I think the OSX feel is far more intuitive. However I do know some people that like it standard KDE desktop. This mockup should become a theme that ships with KDE so that distributions tailored to basic users (kubuntu/SUSE) can easily provide them with a more pleasing interface. Keep up the great work!

 Some great ideas

I really like the way the level of detail flows through the konq window: to the left, we have a folder view, in the center there are specific files, and on the right there's details for one specific file. Konqueror's top bar might be too simplified, though. Within two or three clicks it should still be possible to access konqueror's global config (unless that's been moved to the Configure menu). Kicker looks pretty, professional and clean.. nice work!
