Description:

KTranslator is a program to translate words from one language to another.

Now, I create a program (dictconv) to convert a dictionary from one format do another, like a sdict to stardict. The program requires zlib and libxml2.

The program supports conversion from Babylon glossaries (.bgl) to stardict. I think this is the unique GPL program that handles Babylon glossaries at moment.

Thanks to Karl Grill (for the reverse engineering) and Ricardo Villalba (from Wordtrans) it is now possible.

More formats will come soon.

Changelog:

Dictconv

Are there any problem with that?? I choose KTranslator because it is intuitive, but if I have to change, no problem.
I've heard of KTranslator before, but I remember that this project has changed the name.

Hi,

as explained before and as available in babylon, please given to us the possibility to use one source of language (english by example) and two translations languages (french and chinese by example).

It's really usefull for us (studying chinese).

Sincerely for your help of this and for your program.

Miguipda ;-)

You can do this by adding a dictionary English-French and another English-Chinese. You can add any number of dictionaries and KTranslator will search in all.
The only problem is that KTranslator should read and index the dictionaries in start, so the more dictionaries you have, the slower Translator starts.

 strange behaviour

Why dodn't make behaviour like stardict(
http://stardict.sf.net), I suppose leader of OpenSource dictionaries,

I mean how it work with X selection buffer,
it much better then strange work with OCR.

The "behavior" of stardict is already made, since version 0.1. This is the "Watch the clipboard" feature (clipboard plugin). The stardict team uses the same way to get the clipboard changes, check it every interval of time. Ugly hack, but with we Xwindows can't do better.
If you don't like the OCR plugin, please, disable it. I mantain the clipboard plugin because what you call "strange work".
And remember that gocr is a beta software. Maybe you can help the gocr team to improve the software. It is open source community.

I didn't see anything similar to stardict,
I want to select word, and after that see translation, that's work in stardict, but it require gtk+, in you application I need press some key,
this is unusable.

>Ugly hack

It is work, so it is a beautiful.

>And remember that gocr is a beta software. >Maybe you can help the gocr team to improve >the software.

OCR software work too slow, and not support many languages, ugly or not ugly but way of stardict is work, in difference from ktranslator

>I want to select word, and after that see translation,

Remove these lines in ktranslator-0.3/ktranslator/uiplugins/clipboard/ktranslator_clipboard.cpp:

#ifdef KDE_3_4
if( /*config::needControl() &&*/ ! ( kapp->keyboardMouseState() & button ) ) return;
#else
if( /*config::needControl() &&*/ ! ( kapp->keyboardModifiers() & 4 ) ) return;
#endif

But I don't think this is a good idea. The need for pressing a key is for KTranslator try to translate only what you want. Not everything.
If more people want to remove this feature, I will add a option to remove it. Maybe disabled by default. The commented code is to implement this option.

>It is work, so it is a beautiful.

Yes, it works, but have some flaws. Most of these flaws the user don't see anyway.

>OCR software work too slow

I gave you the option. As I said before, if you don't like the OCR, don't use it. Another person do like it. Me too. Open Source is about freedom.
The way stardict uses is already implemented.

I select word, wait, wait, wait and nothing

void Clipboard::slotChanged()
{
#if 0
#ifdef KDE_3_4
if( /*config::needControl() &&*/ ! ( kapp->keyboardMouseState() & button ) ) return;
#else
if( /*config::needControl() &&*/ ! ( kapp->keyboardModifiers() & 4 ) ) return;
#endif
#endif
if( !enabled ) return;
QString word = clip->text();
emitSearch( word );
}

why not make it as in StarDict?

There is option scan only if modifier key pressed,
if you choose this option you can select key for that.

Why edit code for switch on or off this feature?

 strange code

 by qwer on: Sep 12 2005

Score 50%

In ktranslator/plugins/dictd/dictzip.cpp I found such code:

entry = dic[word];
if( entry.size == 0 ) return QString::null;

Why you add every "word", which you search, to QMap?

You can try this code, to understand your problem:

QMap dic;
dic["a"]=17;
dic["b"]=16;
//int i=dic["c"];
QMap::iterator p=dic.find("c");

if (p!=dic.end())
qWarning("Found");
else
qWarning("Not Found");

if you uncomment
int i=dic["c"];
you see that output change from "Not Found" to "Found",
this is because of operator[] add entry, if it didn't find.

The ding dictionary is not supported by ktranslator yet. I plan to code a plugin for it in the future.
