Description:

KTranslator is a program to translate words from one language to another.

Now, I create a program (dictconv) to convert a dictionary from one format do another, like a sdict to stardict. The program requires zlib and libxml2.

The program supports conversion from Babylon glossaries (.bgl) to stardict. I think this is the unique GPL program that handles Babylon glossaries at moment.

Thanks to Karl Grill (for the reverse engineering) and Ricardo Villalba (from Wordtrans) it is now possible.

More formats will come soon.

Changelog:

Dictconv
---------

0.2

Fix several bug mainly in Babylon glossary reader
Add CMake support (you can build the package with GNU tools or CMake now)
Add support to convert to plain text dictionaries
Add support to convert to DICT dictionaries

I'm installing this when I get home for the wife. Hopefully English to Korean will work with this. (As long as I can find the dictionary right? :] ) Again thanks... this will be useful (now does anyone know of an British to American dictionary?) (truly evil *grin* on that note)

Hi,

sincerely thanks for this so usefull program. Iregularly use it under windoz but I regret it wasn't yet available under linux. Now it's done. Thanks for that.
Please support it until it will really be to the top.

First of all, please don't limit your program to the gentoo distrib. But let it useful for others.

Secondly, is it also possible (like under windoz) to select more languages. In fact I used a translation from english to french and chinese. It is really interresting for me that can display many languages translations. Because I regularly use french but studying chinese.

Have a nice day,

Miguipda ;-)

Actually, I don't limit the program to any distribution. I use gentoo and only gentoo, so I can make packages for gentoo. To create for other distributions, I have to install they too and mantain updated all. Not possible. I'm thinking in make packages for knoppix, only because it is a livecd.
To support other distributions adequately, I need support of community. Testing, reporting, patching and making packages (who can do it) is the best way the community can improve the software.
You select the language when you select the dictionary. I know that a better way to change languages would be more efficient, but it is planned for a future version. Be patient.

locale ru_RU.UTF-8, freedict dictionary also in UTF. Translated word is shown incorrectly, looks like problem with fonts. May be it would be better ro use kde fonts or implement font config dialog ?

This is not necessary. This is a bug in Unicode handling by KTranslator. This is already fixed.
I'm planning in release a bugfix version soon.

Stardict uses the same format that DICT with some small differences. I will study more the stardict and make a plugin for it.

Nice work dude! Love this app :)

But there's one think, you should consider to improve:

Use KDE's feature of global-shortcuts for activating the translation tool-tip!

Using just CTRL is really no good idea, because so many other shortcuts use CTRL als part of them, so the translation keeps popping up when it shouldn't.

Keep going!

You can disable the watching of clipboard in configuration or click with middle button in system tray. I didn't say it before.
I have to stop to code for a while and write a manual.

 gentoo ebuild

Thanks for the ebuild :D I have just two comments:
1) Works and amd64
2) It dosn't download the file properly, I had to do it manually. It tries to download the sf.net download page. I see that you are using the mirror://sourceforge thing so I dunno what the problem might be. It happened to me when I tried to create the digest.

Great app, thank you!

Cheers,
Karol Krizka

1 - Did you asked if it works in amd64?? I don't know. It should as I've used basically the Qt functions. Can you test it?? I don't have a amd64 :(
2 - I don't know what happening. All ebuilds use mirror://sourceforge. It works very well here. I have test it. Maybe a bug of portage.

Cool App! it works nice on Debian x86 and Gentoo amd64. What I've noticed is that it doesn't always work when the Ctrl-key is used. I think it's because some applications wait for that event too. What about a new feature asking for the sepcial key to use?

It is already implemented. Now you can choose between Shift, Control, Alt and the Win Key.
See in next version.
