Description:

This wizard will allow you to create a DVD from one or more DVD compatible MPEG-2 files. It is designed to be very easy to use. All you need to do is add one or multiple files to the playlist and answer the questions that follow.

You can add a menu that will contain animated thumbnails of the files in the playlist. Creating a menu is optional.

Features include:

* Playlist editor
* DVD menu with multiple pages
* Animated thumbnails in the menu
* Customisable menu graphics
* Add soundtrack from OGG or MP3
* Antialiased graphics prevent flickering on TV
* Both Widescreen and standard 4:3 support
* ISO DVD Image creation
* MPEG2 DVD compatibility checking
* Support for both PAL and NTSC menus

Requirements:

* Kommander >= 1.0 (part of kdewebdev >= 3.3.0)
* ImageMagick 6.2 or 6.3
* MJPEGTools
* Sox
* DVDAuthor >= 0.6.11
* Transcode

Not required (but recommended):

* Xine-UI (for testing the DVD)
* K3B

How to Install:

Just unpack the archive and run the 'Installer.kmdr' script. That's it!

Please contact me if you experience a problem.

-------------------------------------

*** IMPORTANT ***

Because ImageMagick developers keep changing the commandline syntax for every single version, the KDE DVD Authoring Wizard does not work with versions older than 6.1.0. Also, newer versions are not compatible with their predecessors. That's why you need to make sure that your DVDAuthor version is newer than ImageMagick, because it uses ImageMagick for menu processing.

Please send your complaints about this mess to the ImageMagick mailing list.

"Could not run DVDBuilder.sh"

could you add some debugging to track this down?

This happens when the script returns a value unequal to zero. It will do this when it fails. Could you please open a konsole window in the directory where the install files are located and run:

./DVDBuilder.sh ; echo $?

You can post the output, or email it to me. The last line of the output should only contain '0'.

it returns zero.
as i already mentioned, the kommander script is borked - not DVDBuilder.sh!

as i dont know anything about kommander scripts id ask you to add some debugging to that.

are you sure sh @global(_KDDIR)/DVDBuilder.sh" is correct? i guess there lies the problem. (we are talking about non-installation running)

I'm fairly sure that the sh @global(_KDDIR)/DVDBuilder.sh" is correct. I always run the wizard directly, without installing and it works perfectly.

It is hard to imagine how

./DVDBuilder.sh

returns zero and

sh "@global(_KDDIR)/DVDBuilder.sh"

does not return zero. What happens when you replace the line

sh "@global(_KDDIR)/DVDBuilder.sh"

with just

"@global(_KDDIR)/DVDBuilder.sh"

What Linux/KDE/Kommander versions are you using?

ok. i have the solution!

your script doesnt work with sh - its needs bash!
my /bin/sh was a symlink to dash not bash.
try running DVDBuilder.sh with anything except bash and youll get an error.

release 0.9.3 with "bash" instead of "sh" and were fine ;)

Good to hear!

I'm also planning to release an MPEG2 encoding wizard very soon. It uses MJPEGTools to create image processing chains that optimize the video stream before it reaches the encoder. The resulting MPEG2 files look *very* good. It will include a profiler that you can use to find the optimal processing pipeline for any video source.

So, stay tuned.. :)

Very good work.
Congratulations for you.

Creating a S(VCD) is completely different from creating a DVD. It differs so much that I don't see how I could unify (S)VCD support with my wizard in a way that is not completely insane.. :) I'd better create a special wizard for that, but I don't think I will do this. Where I live, everybody uses DVD.. :)

 Error?

 by kkrizka on: Aug 14 2005

Score 50%

I tried to create a dvd out of some movie I captured some time ago, but all the preview stuff and build menus showed empty files. Looking at the debug output I saw this:
/usr/bin/kommander/KDVDAuthoringWizard/DVDBuilder.sh: line 1596: bc: command not found
Am I missing something? Everything the program checks for is there. This is amd64 with gentoo.

Looks like a great program so far!

Cheers,
Karol Krizka

'emerge bc' should help... It should be installed on any Linux box. Since this utility is shipped seperately on Gentoo, I will add a dependency check for it.

 output ISO ...

I am using Gentoo 2005.1 on a AMD64 machine. When i run this application for the first time, it worked fine. But the next start outputs ISO file with zero length, finalize and create ISO processes need no time. When i look to debug output, i can find some errors:

Please look at http://www.volny.cz/machytka/bugs/debug_output.zip

Thanks for help ..

The problem is in this line:

INFO: [mp2enc] The MPEG encoded output file name is "/home/pinom/Dokumenty/temporary/DVDAuthorWizard_Temporary_Files_10513/soundtrack."

That output file lacks the ".mp2" filename extension, so it cannot be found by DVDAuthor.

I really don't see how this is possible, because this filename is hardcoded into the script. The only way to make this happen is to change the script itself...

The wizard searches for fonts in the most common places. It seems that you do not have any fonts in those places.

Could you please run:

locate *.ttf *.pfb

and tell me where it finds your fonts? I can add these font paths to the next release.
