Description:

Bootsplash for Suse 93, but may be used with any suse distro. The progress bar actually has correct timing with new kernels.

To install:

1 extract to /etc/bootsplash/themes/
example: /etc/bootsplash/themes/susegreensplash

2 use Yast bootsplash theme changer-by mouseclicks: Yast>system>/etc/sysconfig Editor>system>boot>theme>type name of theme (susegreensplash)>finish

3 as superuser (root) type in terminal: mkinitrd -s 1024x768

... done ... reboot, and you will see the new bootsplash.

(I thank the author of this splendid transparent *.png image)! Great artwork! All I did it insert the image and adjust the progress bar timing, position, and colors.

Changelog:

Changed timing of progress bar back to default... works better

I like it. Make a matching KDE splash (like how the 9.3 default works) and I'll love you.

Awesome, glad you like it. I have made a matching wallpaper and Ksplash. Let me know if you would use a matching KDM theme for login! I will whip one up for you!

I just installed your bootsplash theme, following all the directions that were given, and all I get at startup is text! Nothing but text until the login screen.

Hi firstly, are you running Suse? I know... dumb question. Also, the last step, running mkinitrd -s 1024x768 as superuser is key... I am so sorry it wont work for you ... plz let me know if you have any luck. So far, everyone I know has had no problems getting the bootsplash installed..

I have the same problem as Chrispy. When I boot there is just the startup text on a black background.

I am running suse 9.1. I ran the mkinitrd command as root.

Looks like a nice screen, hopefully I can get it to work :)

Also, can you give us uninstall instructions just in case I can't get it to work? I tried to reset the default bootsplash in system settings but that didn't work. Cheers.

I have the same problem..After following your instructions all I get is text.

I would appreciate knowing how to get back to the default splashscreen,I've tried selecting it with Yast and then mkinitrd again, but it doesn't seem to work.

hmm.. its bugging me that u cant get it working.. it seems likely that your computer is not able to run this bootscreen in 1024x768 mode.

to uninstall it I would try setting back to the default SuSE screen and running mkinitrd -s 800x600

sorry it isnt working for you... please note, I have only tested this with SuSE 9.3! So, I can only gurantee it will work with SuSE 9.3... any one have luck with other SuSE versions?? OH BTW... to get SUSE 9.1 default screen back, you need to specify suse-home as the default splash not SuSE.. in yast... type suse-home ok... see ya
