Description:

The first screenshot shows the default dotNET configuration (what you'll get if you don't play with any configuration options).

The second screenshot shows what happens if you turn off the rounded corners.

The third screenshot shows how dotNET looks if you turn off the newfangled Pseudo3D mode. This is what you want to do if you really liked the old look of dotNET.

All of these screenshots have UseTextShadows enabled.

Changelog:

Just updating the screenshots... it's about time, I know. New stuff, soon to be released as 1.4.3. (1.4.2 was internal only, and quite buggy.)

1.4.1: Speedups with QPopupMenu stuff, bugfixes for QTabBar items, and general fixes all-around. Highly recommended.

1.4: Progressbars, menu items, and other fun stuff. Download, test, play, tell me what you think!

1.3: A whole slew of fixes now. If you really liked the way dotNET used to look and this version makes you angry, add a line containing:

Pseudo3D=false

to your ~/.qt/kstylerc file. Otherwise, enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Oh, yeah - another neat hidden feature is text shadows. Turn them on by opening up that ~/.qt/kstylerc and adding:

UseTextShadows=true

NEW:

Now you can turn off the rounded corners if you don't like them. Add the option:

RoundedCorners=false

to your ~/.qt/kstylerc and see the silly corner pixels.

 mp3 player kiwi

What is that mp3 player in your screenshot, and where can I find it? I looked on apps.kde.com, sourceforge, and freshmeat and I still can't find it... it is a program that is still being developed? Sorry for all these questions... but I am excited to see a new itunes-style player for linux, as I haven't found a mp3 player that suits my taste yet... xmms and noatun both lack well-integrated playlist functionality. Thanks!

Search apps.kde.com for 'juk'.

Kiwi is an MP3 player under development, yes. You can find a few tarballs at http://c133.org/kiwi/ - we're almost ready to release 0.6, but the 0.6_pre2 is fairly close to what it'll be like.

Right now it's still very basic, but it's fast, and clean, and small (sorta like dotNET :). We're aiming to make it an iTunes for KDE; if that sounds interesting to you, please try it out and give me some feedback.

 Tool bars

Very nice.

I like the older-style tool bars, though... any way to revert back to the older way -just- for the toolbar?

Not currently, no. You could open up the source code if you wanted to hard-code it for yourself, but I'm not about to implement Pseudo3DToolBar=true and Pseudo3DButton=true and so on for every single element. (If someone else wants to, that'd be great, but I'd rather not.)

Also, I'm thinking about merging in the changes from the dotNET-R and making that an option as well. Not sure yet. We'll see. (But one thing is for sure - dotNET is definitely not stagnant. :)

 The change is bad

I see some modifications made in your dotNET theme since the one packaged with KDE 3. I don't like the changes and I think that your style mimics an older windows look and it's not as sharp as it used to be.

Please bring back the nice, sharp edges.

Ooops, sorry for the earlier post. I just read your changelog. I like the shadowed text and I forgot to compliment on that.

 configurable != bad

This is why I don't like the GNOME philosophy of stripping out configuration options. dotNET can support 3 somewhat different modes via a few if statements - the extra added code is really not very complex, and it changes the UI substantially enough to get complaints and compliments (at the same time! :)

In KDE 3.2, there may even be a graphical configuration dialog for per-style configuration settings so that one never needs to muck with the ~/.qt/kstylerc manually at all. This would be nice.

As always, though, I am providing what I feel are the best and most reasonable defaults. Pseudo3D is now default because I think that it looks a hell of a lot better than the old default, because I've reimplemented the style for most of the widgets (only a few stragglers remain, and I'm targetting them too). But it costs me nearly nothing to keep the old code in there, and it even serves as inspiration when I'm looking for how I want to do something in Pseudo3D.

Anyway, my point being - making things like this configurable is good, and taking away the freedom of choice from you guys just because I happen to think Pseudo3D is neat would be stupid and unfriendly. I just wish that the GNOME developers felt the same.

 Configuration = good

This is why I love KDE. I just saw your initial screenshots and thought that my favorite style had changed for the worst. But if you say it's configurable, I don't have problems with that. Although I do not use Liquid, I can appreciate the great lengths that Mosfet has gone to in allowing custom options.

Do you take feature suggestions?

Perhaps change your progress dialog and check boxes/radio buttons to mimic the Windows XP green and gray ones. Is this possible? I've seen it done in other styles, but I am happy either way with the old look.

This is the cleanest style for KDE around, and I greatly appreciate your efforts. Thanks.

 feature suggestions

Of course I take feature suggestions. The only thing that prompted the 1.3 release was a post on Slashdot by some guy who mentioned that the only thing he didn't like about my new version was that it cut off his corner pixels... so I made it possible for him to turn that off. I figure if somebody is annoyed enough by that that they'd make a post on a web site about it, it's probably annoying to a few other people; I, however, happen to think that the rounded corners make it much softer and more usable.

I don't have a copy of Windows (any version) installed, so could you maybe give me a screenshot link or two (in an email, preferably) explaining what you mean? (The progressbars are next up for a reimplementation anyway.)

If you want, have a look at QtCurve (on kde-look.org). The style is fairly similar to dotNet, and you could use this as a starting point. It would then do colour and font matching with KDE.

Let me know if you want any help.

Craig.
