Description:

The first screenshot shows the default dotNET configuration (what you'll get if you don't play with any configuration options).

The second screenshot shows what happens if you turn off the rounded corners.

The third screenshot shows how dotNET looks if you turn off the newfangled Pseudo3D mode. This is what you want to do if you really liked the old look of dotNET.

All of these screenshots have UseTextShadows enabled.

Changelog:

Just updating the screenshots... it's about time, I know. New stuff, soon to be released as 1.4.3. (1.4.2 was internal only, and quite buggy.)

1.4.1: Speedups with QPopupMenu stuff, bugfixes for QTabBar items, and general fixes all-around. Highly recommended.

1.4: Progressbars, menu items, and other fun stuff. Download, test, play, tell me what you think!

1.3: A whole slew of fixes now. If you really liked the way dotNET used to look and this version makes you angry, add a line containing:

Pseudo3D=false

to your ~/.qt/kstylerc file. Otherwise, enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Oh, yeah - another neat hidden feature is text shadows. Turn them on by opening up that ~/.qt/kstylerc and adding:

UseTextShadows=true

NEW:

Now you can turn off the rounded corners if you don't like them. Add the option:

RoundedCorners=false

to your ~/.qt/kstylerc and see the silly corner pixels.

First off, this style is definitely not for everybody. This style was originally intended just for my own personal use, but some of the other KDE developers said that it looked good, and they convinced me that other people might also like it. Second, if you don't like it, awesome! Tell me what would be better. Give suggestions. Not that I want to point fingers or anything, but did you even download the style and try it out? How can you know if you do or don't like it if you haven't tested it? If you have, well, my email address isn't exactly a secret. I also frequent this forum pretty frequently now (since I kind of created it) and any comments you make are sure to get my attention.

So tell me what to make better! Everybody wins. If you think that a full rewrite would be better, implementing a better look'n'feel that isn't even remotely similar to a MS GUI, then I eagerly await your patches or the announcement on the main page here. Until then, let the other people tell me how much they like it, because it's a nice boost for my ego. : ) -clee

first of all: why isnt there a happier face down there to attribute the comment:-?
I just tried gonx-style, which is really nice and clean as well... but it can't beat this! i am always amazed how fast it is, an how clean it "feels". I have found some bugs yet which i will tell the author as soon as possible, but bugs are here to be resolved...

BTW: It actually does NOT remain me of any Mircosoft- look'n'feel (but i haven't seen the "original" .NET- style yet...).

It's not perfect yet, but it will be... and it's the best theme for KDE at all, by far better than liquid (qhich i consider to unuseable...).

Great work, I love it... and will hopefully use it with KDE3 as well...!!!

MfG

Ok, this being said.. I really like this style :P I've tried qnx, liquid and others and this one has very revolutionary menu's which is cool.. The only thing is that the other widgets aren't as revolutionary and thereby don't feel so good (to me anyway).. they feel mostly like some motif variation to me. I've never seen/used any xp/.net apps, but I think the widgets can be improved a lot! In five words: Keep up tha good work! with good widgets this is a top notch style! ;)

I've never used .NET or XP myself, but when I spotted this, I gave it a look because I wanted to see how it would look.. It's very clean and functional - almost professional looking with no extra distractions to get in the way - very easy to understand what is chosen and has great feedback The only thing I did was turn off the top menubar thing.. that annoys me to no end. But to the author: Thanks for a great clean style!

Well, here is what I think about your reply to me. First, what good is a comment section if people can't say that they don't like something. Gee, that makes a lot of sense. Sorry, but we all don't agree with you. I don't think MS has done something good with XP. Sorry don't agree with you again, guess I better not say anything because expressing my own opinion is wrong I guess. None of this is aimed at the author, just the person who responded to me the first time. I may not like it, but keep on pluggin away on it. I commend you for you work in the open source world. I guess what I would really like to see is that we stop trying to copy Macs or Windows and come up with something unique to Linux and then have MS or Apple trying to copy it from the Linux community, that would be cool. Later all and do enjoy this theme if you like the Windows XP look!!!! I apologize for my first remark if I conveyed anything discouraging to the author, but I won't apologize for saying my opinion.

Following that logic, would then it be okay if you were to go up to somebody and say, "You are ugly"? It is your opinion and you have a right to express it. But would you express it in that case? It's not necessary to do that, maybe even destructive. Rather, just ignore that aspect of the person that you personally don't like and appreciate them for what you find to be positive qualities. Getting back to the issue at hand, there is already enough Windows-like/Aqua-like flaming. I think it is expressed very much already that some would rather have artists spend their time on 'original' work instead of porting other looks. That's an okay opinion, and one I myslf share to some extent - I had the Aqua craze for awhile, then I decided I wanted KDE to look like KDE and not Aqua or XP. But I don't think it is necessary to repeat that opinion *every time* someone posts a MS- or Mac- inspired theme. I personally don't want my own machine to look like XP or Aqua, but I still think this style is clean and well done. I think we're arguing over the same thing here. :o) But you are right, I too. would like to see more KDE-centric styles and themes myself. I would suggest taking the XP menus form this style, make the highlight 3D like it in the default style, mix it with default KDE 3D widgets, and you have a winner! It takes the best from XP and KDE to make somthing very nice that's not a direct or close copy of Whistler/Luna.Aqua, etc. Cheers, Ty (author of RE: Nooo)
