Description:

KTrafficAnalyzer is meant to provide visual feedback of your current network traffic, similar to tools like DU-Meter. In addition it provides statistics with total down- and upload sums.
Starting with version 0.3.7 KTA supports reading the stats remotely using an SSH-connection. For instructions on how to use that feature checkout the SSHUsage file delivered with KTA.

Of course feedback is more than welcome. There is still more than enough room for improvements. Also checkout the TODO file what I'm already planning - maybe you have ideas what I can add or what might be useful too!

For instructions on how to compile / install it please read the INSTALL file included in the archive.

There are also various RPMs available - just check the download links. Thanks to all the contributors!

Finally a new release of KTA. It is now KDE4/QT4 compatible. Some features like the SSH remote read have been disabled, because the API has changed in such a siginificant way, that I need more time to re-implement those features.

There is now also a SourceForge project available, a SVN repository and some basic descriptions and downloads are available there ( https://sourceforge.net/projects/ktrafficanalyze/ )

I'm also looking for packagers who would like to help me!

this is cool, I really miss such an application for KDE. maybe you can include more info about the network, network card(s)/modem(s), and the abillity to start/restart/stop the network?

I know I ask a lot, but KDE really needs some 'configure, monitor and control network' tool... and the monitor part seems to be cool, here :D

Well, at the moment the tool just reads /proc/net/dev, which makes it useable for any user no matter what rights he has (as /proc/net/dev is readable by everyone). As soon as I go into controlling the network it most propably will be necessary to be root to do so.

In fact I already planned to add control functions, but I guess it is still a long road to there (especially because I'm not really familiar with dial-up connections :)).

Hi,

I am sincerely interresting with this tool. I don't still download and used it. But I have some small questions or proposal.

1) dir you create a .deb file for the ubuntu users ?

2) Is it possible to display from wich IP and port and to wich IP and port traffic is directed to ? In fact in place to install a so weight (to manage) IDS it can then be directly seen what's happend if we see the HD and connections are so busy. This can then be used as a small "protection" like by given the possibility with a small button to set the connection down (a call to the ifconfig down and reset it with the same button that set it up back.

This can be a small idea that I think can be really usefull.

Hi!

1.) No there is no deb file - if you want to create one go for it - I will of course add it to my package :)

2.) Well atm there are no management functions of any kind - the problem is that all ifconfig etc. need root rights, and atm the tool is designed to work as any user - maybe I will add extra options IF the user is root. I will definately keep your idea in mind!

Well the month starts with the first - why should there be an option to set a delay :)?

To keep it visible just use the KDE settings: Klick on the upper-left icon in the title-bar -> advanced -> keep in front (I don't know the exact English menu-point-names, as I translated it from German but you should get the idea :)).
