I honestly believe I have everything it needs but I still get this error.

I think it's because you use Qt 3.1, I make and compile BitDefender FE with Qt 3.3, maybe new functionnality appeared in this version. Try to install Qt 3.3 and compile again.

 Can't Upgrade

by BorgQueen on: Feb 20 2005

Score 50%

Unfortunately I can't upgrade to Qt 3.3 without breaking 90% of all my apps.
Redhat 9.0 doesn't take very well to upgrades. I could end up in dep hell for the next thousand years.

I guess I'll wait until Sarge is released as stable.

Thanks,

The Borg Queen

 no ./configure ???

by IceRAM on: Feb 22 2005

Score 50%

The way I compile && install KDE applications:

./configure --prefix=/opt/kde
make || return 1
make prefix=$startdir/pkg/opt/kde install

I do this inside a script (that's why there's "$startdir" there.

Where is ./configure?
Why does it return
"make: *** No rule to make target `/usr/lib/qt3/mkspecs/default/qmake.conf', needed by `Makefile'. Stop."
on running make?

There's also a prebuilt binary in the archive? How come?

There's something fishy with the build process...

This is not a real KDE application in the way it's realised under Qt3 designer without the help of KDevelop or any other GUI designer. You just need to have Qt3 installed on your machine and the following application :(IMPORTANT : you must install the Qt3 librairies !!!)

- qmake
- make
- lupdate (for translation)
- lrelease (for translation)

You can find these applications in the
following folder :

/usr/lib/qt3/bin

If you want you can make a link in usr/bin such as :

ln -s /usr/lib/qt3/bin

After you must untar the archive in your home directory, you must hide the following folder :

- moc
- obj
- ui

by renaming them like this :

- .moc
- .obj
- .ui

At last you start a console and go to the folder you untar the archive ant type :

make (works only if you modify the source code, if you want to test the compilation just delete the bdfe binary and type make !)

This application works in your home directory. No need to install in the /usr/bin folder.

Bad luck.

My QT is in /opt/qt. That is one BIG REASON for having a ./configure (+options). It is quite normal to run ./configure to detect paths (QT at least in this case) and put them in a Makefile.

The Makefile would then be used by running make, which calls qmake from the appropriate location, linking to the QT libs in the appropriate location.

I am running a 99% totaly clean system here (meaning that I have everything packed in distro packages). I do not think that building in the home dir is a good distribution method.

This is a serious drawback for distributing this application as a distro-package (& maintaining an organized system). It is not flexible enough, and this flexibility can be brought by using adequate building techniques.

Hi thomax

I'm assuming you untared the file into /usr/share so that you have bdfe there (/usr/share/bdfe).

Once you have that in there and build it, go to the language settings and set it to French. save and close.

Then reopen and you should see English as an option there. I don't know why its doing that but this seems to work.

Let me know how it goes...

Open GUI go to last tab, select English, and click on the middle save configuration tab (in French). Quit program and reopen using "bdfe"

 Dumb ?

How do I use the 'lupdate' or 'lrelease' commands to change the language to English? BDFE is compiled and all set except the translation. Sort of a noob here, apologies for the ignorance.

if you untar in your home directory, you have to create a folder named bdfe in /usr/share and copy the lng folder inside, it should work now.

Thanks, but that did not seem to work for me. I created the file as you said and copies the lng file there, but to no avail. Maybe the lupdate/release functions would work, but I cannot figure out how. Not sure if there is anything else to try. Please advise and thanks in advance.

Scratch that, I figured it out. I applied the suggestion of one of the other folks.

Open --> Set Language to French
Save Config & Close
Reopen --> Set Language to English
Save Config & Close
Now applied when executed!

Thanks, nice little utility.

Just rename the bdscan to bdc or create a symbolic link to bdscan named bdc and it just works.

i downloaded it as (.deb) everything is ok but how will it run? there is qt3 in my system (knoppix 5.0). when i write the command 'qmake' an err0r occured 'make:***destination /usr/lib/qt3/mkspecs/default/qmake.conf'
to compile there is no rule, 'Makefile' needs it

In Mandriva you can find the qmake program in /usr/lib/qt3/bin, but in knoppix you have to search in opt I think. Once you found it create a symbolic link in /usr/bin and all is ok.
