i'm not a expert on linux, not even closer but here's how i did it

i extract the file then i go to a console and compress it again but like this

tar czvf [chosename].tar.gz gdm-pixel_girl

then you can install

i think you can just rename it , but i did not try this but if you wanted, do this

in the same folder were the archive is :

mv 18179-gdm-pixel_girl.tar.bz2 [chosename].tar.gz

sry my english

How to install a GDM Theme

Download the above or other favourite GDM theme file (tar.bz2)

Main menu, System, Administration,Login Window.

This will open software that handles your login theme choices (with root privilages)

Hit the "local" tab. Under "style" select the "themed" or "themed with face browser".

You should now see all themes available.

To install the theme you have just downloaded just go to where you downloaded the .tar.bz2 and drag it into the preview box of the Login Window programme. Voila, your theme appears as a selection as if by magic.

Then choose if you would like the Menu Bar option and Welcome Message (personlised if you like) and hey presto you will now have your own personal login window.

To test to make sure you like it just log out.

Happy customising.
