Description:

nTPV is a point of sale (POS) system. Although it was initially designed to manage restaurants, bars, cafes, and similar businesses, it's evolving into a general purpose POS. It uses DCOP and nkxmlrpcd for distributed comunications among POS (ticket printing), and uses PostgreSQL as its database backend. It features a fast and easy-to-use interface. Its high modularity and scalability makes it easy to enhance and mantain.

Hi,

this looks like a great application which could help fill a gap in Linux applications.

Have you thought about phoning SuSE or IBM and preparing a commercial distribution? I think the typical POS is not managed by techies who like to install Linux, but by people who want to earn money and need commercial support. No matter how good the application is, especially in specialized applications like these - if there is nobody to yell at if things break, it isn't even considered.

I think this application could make a LOT of impact if a reputable company were to stand behind it. And it might even bring you a job (if you don't already have one :-)

The main issue on this great looking app, is taht it runs on my beloved KDE.

The reason I tell you this is because I used to work for a few years in a retail software and hardware company. They made these kind off apps and sold it also. Anyhow, the hardware used at the points-of-sale were almost not the newest computers, but older ones to save money.

I recommend you to port this to a more lightweight desktop manager. Why KDE for one application, it should even be able to run standalone, saving a lot of PC-power.

Hi! I'm having a lot of trouble to install your software. I have to manually twick the makefile because the path are hardcoded. I'm working on Suse and apparently your makefile are oriented toward a debian installation :(

Nevertheless, your software seems really good!

yes. I recon it's difficult to install...

In a few days i will submit the next release candidate 1.2rc1. This release includes a better compilation system, which has been tested on SUSE and Debian, so with just a "make all" as root, all the program must be installed.

I have trouble to install your software.I'm working on SUSE 9.2 and get the error:

 1.2RC1 won't build

Downloaded 1.2RC1 and tried to build on Mepis (Debian) but it just won't build, even though I have all of the required libs installed (at least according to the English README). I guess if I was from Spain I'd have some actual documentation to guide me. The LiveCD doesn't do you any good either since it's all in Spanish too. Once this thing gets some English support, it's going to be the best POS software out there. But as it stands right now, it's just a nice looking program that's pretty much only usable if you're from Spain.

Has this been translated yet? Im looking for a good POS system and i think this is the one. It wont compile correctly though. Any help? Is there a forum somewhere thats in english?
