Description:

Dragon Player is a video player for KDE 4 that focuses on simplicity
and easy of use. It is the successor of Codeine, a player for KDE 3.

It is now available in gutsy-backports, check out the Dragon Player website if you use Kubuntu.

Changelog:

2.0.1
Removed the locking of the volumeSlider if the mute is active

2.0.0
Fixed issue where if the user ESCed the play media dialog it wouldn't reappear.
Pressing 'M' causes mute
Return to the logo when playback is explictly stopped
New Icon
Fixed crash on double click in KPart Bug #157579
The volumeSlider is locked if the mute is active

2.0-rc1
Fix status bar title disappearing on window resize
Can turn off subtitles
Can revert to the 'auto' audio channel
Save subtitle and audio channel selection
New DBus API under /Player and /TrackList. A full implementation of MPRIS.
Fix pausing and then playing causing the window size to revert.
A new smart "Play Disc" button that plays whatever kind of media is inserted and
if more then one disc is inserted it lets you pick which disc to play.
As a result, Video CD's and Audio CD's are now experimentally supported.

2.0-beta1
Fix hang on close when paused
Restore cursor hiding over the playing video widget
Restore video settings widget (contrast, brightness), as a sidebar instead of a window.
Restore KPart
Save video settings
Audio channel selectable
Volume slider toolbar. Volume saved globally, not per-file.
Imported Amarok's runtime-selectable debug() system

2.0-alpha1
New maintainer: Ian Monroe
Renamed to Dragon Player
Ported to Qt4, KDE4 and Phonon. Many feature regressions. None of Codeine's bugs though... a whole new set!

 Subtitles

by dolio on: Jun 8 2006

Score 50%

Hi,
I've been trying Codeine out, and it's quite nice.

The only thing that thing I can see that's lacking is support for external subtitle files (.srt, .sub/.idx, etc.). If you could add support for those, I think it'd have everything I need.

Note: at the moment, I'm stuck on 1.0 on Dapper (haven't bothered to compile 1.0.1 myself yet), so if such a feature was added, and merely left off the changelog (or if I've somehow missed it entirely), feel free to ignore me.

Otherwise, good work! :)

 BUG report

by damjan on: Jul 4 2006

Score 50%

I'm using codeine 1.0.1 from the ArchLinux package (on an up-to date Arch, but that doesn't mean anything).

1. Codeine still crashes when you quit directly from fullscreen.
2. The xine config dialog is broken. I don't know how to explain this, but the information about the config fields is missing.

Buglets:
well, the volume button behaves strangely. Sometimes it has an effect on the volume, sometimes it doesn't.

Also, when the toolbar is at the bottom, the volume slider is obscured because it pops downward. Especially in fullscreen.

One more thing, it would be nice when the volume slider shows, it should also be focued, so that you can control the volume right away with a keyboard.

ps.
Is this the prefered medium for bug reports about codeine?

BTW.
The value in
xine_set_param( m_stream, parameter, value )
when setting the volume (parameter = XINE_PARAM_AUDIO_AMP_LEVEL)

is from 0 to 199 not from 0 to 100, so you'll have to adjust the slider, and also calculate the %.

I changed the two occurences of the max value to 199 and the volume slider works much better.

I have to think a bit about the inversion in the slider update that you do it seems a bit wrong.

It distorts above 120 for most streams. 100 = normal volume.

The volume control is basically unfinished, hopefully I'll get it working right for 1.0.2. Cheers.

Trying to install on SUSE10, doing "./configure", get the following...

Checking for kde-config : kde-config was found
Checking for kde version : 3.5.1
Checking for the qt library : qt is in /usr/lib/qt3
Checking for uic : uic was found as /usr/lib/qt3/bin/uic
Checking for moc : moc was found as /usr/lib/qt3/bin/moc
Checking for the qt includes : ok /usr/lib/qt3/include/
Checking for the kde includes : The kde includes were NOT found

But /opt/kde3/include exists and is populated.

Any ideas?
